For months this place has been pretty dead aside from a few regulars who stop by. Thanks, by the way! What can we do to liven this place up & get it flourishing again? I don't expect it to be like old times aka 2005-early 2006 on Commando Fans because no time will ever be that great again. It's hard to top a time like that. This place has turned into "The Namedrop Alliance" for the most part where post count threads reign supreme. I'll admit that I'm guilty of this too. I'd just love to see this place lively with activity. Action Alliance as a website was a good idea but never came through, mostly because a lot of the admins have a lot going on in their lives & a website really doesn't factor in with everything else. We don't even really need a site. Even with the old Commando Fans site, as amazing as it was, the board was an entity in itself. The site received great traffic but the board was a madman with activity. The site itself often got overlooked for the board. I just don't want to see this place become a tomb. The website idea was a fluke. I'd like for this place not to be.

We need to get some new blood that have interesting stuff to say and enthusiasm to post. I check the board out quite regularly, but there's usually no interesting posts to reply to...no interesting ongoing discussions or funny threads. Things looked up a while ago when Cohaagen was back, because he had a load of stuff to tell us about. That kept some of us coming back every day to hear more and to talk about it, and the busier the board the more interesting it becomes. Not that I'm saying the rest of you have shit chat, just that we all seem to be like ships passing in the night on the board now - just firing off short posts that no one really pays much attention to. There's no chat or discussions or running jokes or anything now What I'm trying to say is that some fresh new blood might prep things up again. I'm afraid I've shot my action-movie creative load. The well is dry. Back in 2005 I could spend ages thinking up stuff to drivel on about on the board, these days I don't have the time, inclination or motivation...and I think most of the old guard seem to feel the same We're feeling old John. We're feeling old.

Just re-read my above post and thought it sounded a bit like I'm trying to say that the regulars on here these days are boring. I don't mean it like that. I just mean that the board needs a few people who have that wee bit of magic that gets everyone else checking out the board, talking to each other and all having a laugh together. The 2005 'Golden Era' was so good because all the regulars seemed to have a bit of that magic and enthusiasm. There's just no real 'spark' on the board right now - it doesn't feel like a group of mates having a laugh, more like a group of strangers posting half-heartedly on some board. In terms of attracting new blood - advertising on IMDB and other movie websites? (saw something in the paper about a site that's dedicated to so-bad-they're-good movies that might be ripe for some new recruits). Sorry I seem so downbeat

I hear you about the action-movie creative well being dried up. I think mine dried up in like 2007. We do have some great regulars around here. I just wish they'd post more often. I also wish some of the admins would come back. El Prez has been gone for almost a year. I'd love to see some of his hilarious photoshops. Triggerhappy told us that he'd be back like four times now but nothing there. Sucks that right when Haag came back, I left for vacation. By the time I got back online, the action seemed to die down. Maybe there's some sort of boredom cloud that follows me around. With the whole post count thread thing, we can make a new sub-board & throw them all in there & make it so it doesn't affect post count. Maybe it'll encourage more worthwhile posts from people(including myself). We did this on the Maniac Cop board for awhile but did away with it because none of the members really abused that idea...or posted for the most part anyway. I almost want to revert back to the old Commando Fans board just to see if that wave of nostalgia will bring people back or get people back to posting. Keyword: almost.

Even tho I don't even post as much as I used to, I do agree that posting has died down by quite the number here. The idea you have of reverting back to the Commandofans title might be some help. I originally joined this board because I was obsessed with Commando and this seemed like the only place where the Commando was the main discussion and there wasn't a person to bash it or troll. My apologies for creating the new namedrop thread. Dunno quite why I created it--you can erase it if you'd like, Kimble. Doesn't really matter to me. Triggerhappy told us that he'd be back like four times now but nothing there. I spoke to him the other day about posting here and he didn't really have much to say to me. Apparently he's "busy," which he obviously isn't. It does suck; I enjoyed reading his posts (even tho I live with him as a brother every day). Best of luck on your mission, Kimble!

It would be up to the other admins if they'd want to revert back to it or not. Most of the members here already have an account there so it would be like putting on an old (fingerless) glove that fits like a charm. I know I'm game for it.
It's not a problem about the namedrop thread. You're one of our strongest posters & have a good deal to say. It's only a problem when people come here to just post in those threads & never say anything else. It won't get erased. The only threads around here that'll get erased or flame bait & blatant trolling threads.
That's a pretty lame excuse. If he were actually busy, that'd be a different story. It sucks because he was a strong poster that always had something great to add to the discussions.

Like what was said above, the old board will never return. I guess having a leader like Arius helped out a lot, but that's just my personal opinion.
I am also a convicted post count tread user, usually I just come, post, and leave. Although I am ligitmatley busy and I usually don't have the time to stick around and post, but I hope to change that in future.
Another feel that I feel, and this is just my opinion, I feel that I'm a thread killer. For example, the Murphy's Law thread is completely dead, and I last posted there. Maybe it's just me or there is no interest in the subject.

To be honest, I remember the old Commandofans board dried up a bit towards the end. Whatever hapenned to DollarGuy and Symlex? Those guys were great. Did Tim Cappello actually release any albums? When I searched on ebay the only thing that came up was Learn to Speak Capello Manage Internatio (?) by Tim Bradford.

To be honest, I remember the old Commandofans board dried up a bit towards the end. If I remember correctly, more of the older admins were coming back towards the end & a small "return to the old times" was upon us.

Yeah, it was really good at the very end after having gone through a bit of a dry spell.

I"m sure alot of it has to do too with the recent release of the collectors edition of the movie. The anticipation leading up to that was unreal. I do still check the site once a day (usually when I have some down time at work) and I try to contribute what I can, but I agree it has died down.
I"m willing to continue to work at posting funny shit though. To me, Commandofans...and 80's action movies...will never die. Never!

To be honest, I remember the old Commandofans board dried up a bit towards the end. Whatever hapenned to DollarGuy and Symlex? Those guys were great. They were great until they started falling out with other folk on the board. A lot of it was really childish and petty. Arius, for all his flaws, was generally a good figurehead for the site and board. He was really enthuisastic, partially at least because he started CommandoFans, and he was always made a decent contribution to the board. That can rub off on other members and make the place more lively. There was always downturns in activity. When some regulars aren't around for a while, it gets a bit quieter (and more boring), and this makes those who are still around less likely to post (and less likely to post interesting stuff). It's kind of a self-propating downwards spiral. In the past it would pick up when folk got back from holidays, or a cracking new thread started. At the moment we're stuck in a long and severe downward spiral. A pretty big lift is needed to get things back on track - sadly, I don't have any ideas bar an advertising campaign to try and attract new blood
