my 90's started in '92. all stuff 90-2 is 80's as far as i'm concerned. it was around that time that people like kurt cobain and bill clinton came along and spoiled all the fun for everyone. anyway: under siege 2 point break (damn thats '91!) cliffhanger on deadly ground hard target death wish V i cant actually think of any more that i like enough for a top ten. con air would have been brilliant if van damme or stallone had been in it instead of nic cage. other than that, my mind is drawing a big blank . damn me and my personally imposed rule that the 90's started 2 years late.

I'm going to disagree slightly with Lord Chenney and say that Con Air is brilliant despite starring Nicholas Cage. Normally I can't stand him, but the film itself is so daft and over the top he somehow suits it well.
My top ten...ummm...
Hard Target, Con Air, T2, Under Siege, True Lies, Marked for Death, Universal Soldier, Demolition Man, Cliffhanger, Hard to Kill.
There are a few others, but I think those are the ones that managed to keep the 80's action vibe going a bit.

hence why the presence of van damme would have propelled it into orbit. cage is a qualified oscar winning actor in a dumb film. a dumb film calls for a certain va va voom in the lead role. by not having it, the water of purity is dirtied.

I agree Van Damme would have made it even better, and that ideally an action film should star someone who is a martial artist/bodybuilder turned actor...but Cage usually overacts badly which seems to lend itself to Con Air. On the other hand, he overacts badly in The Rock, and I'm not a huge fan of that one (though Sean Connery is great in it).

^I'm actually yet to see Con Air despite being a massive John Woo fan and the main reason is that it has Nicholas Cage in it, who I can't perceive to be a genuine action star. I may just satisfy my curiosity and borrow it some time from my local DVD store to see what it's like.
My top 10 of the 90s (again, in no particular order):
Terminator 2 Total Recall Hard Boiled Demolition Man Cliffhanger Toy Soldiers (probably not out and out action, but still good due to its ridiculous premise in my opinion) Die Hard: With a Vengeance Point Break The Last Boyscout Face/Off
Honourable mentions go to Universal Soldier and Showdown in Little Tokyo.

The only reason I didn't include Total Recall is because it was filmed in '89 (like Death Warrant) and still has the classic 80s action formula: Oak+guns+one-liners=80s action. Therefore it doesn't enter the realm of 90s action.
