The Replicant
it's Van Dammage's second film with director Ringo Lam, and said to be JCVD's best acting yet. Apparently it's his best DTV, which must mean it's better than Wake of Death--we'll see tonight.

Hellraiser - another £1.83 Woolworths bargain for the cheap bastard in the tight black shirt I remember Kimble saying that the Hellraiser series is one of the few horror franchises that he isn't that keen on, which is more or less the inverse of me - I can't stand most horror movies, but I love the first couple of Hellraisers. The first one is really the best, a hugely original film....what a great angle, pasty sex pests who come out a box and fuck you up. I think they made a big mistake by changing tack in Hellbound by portraying the Cenobites as coming from a literal, physical Hell instead of simply being amped-up leather-daddies from some nebulous yet horribly tangible realm of unending sado-masochistic pleasure/torture in extremis just inches away from our own world (under the attic floorboards I think). I did think the big crystal that controls the labyrinth in Hellbound was super ace though, and it was good to see Sean Chapman aka James the greenhouse rapist from Scum return as Fucked Frank. I especially like all the big foghorn blasts it kept coming out with. As much as I liked the backstory of Elliot Spencer>Pinhead, I think it should have been cut since it removed all the mystery of the character and essentially left him neutered of the menace he had so much of in the first. Hellraiser 3: Hell On Earth is even worse - a Cenobite that shoots CDs what the fuck, min? And the chick with a tab sticking out of her throat? I remember seeing it featured on the crummy early 90s Channel 4 movie review show Surf Potatoes and thinking it looked like complete balls even then. They eventually ruined everything by transforming every victim into a novelty Cenobite action figure, instead of just having them ripped apart by hooks and chains like in the good ol' days.

My opinion on the Hellraiser films has changed a lot in the past year & a half. I love the first two, especially Hellbound. And I enjoyed Hell on Earth for it's CD shooting Cenobite, which was ridiculous as fuck! Kingpin Tales From the Crypt Double Feature: Bordello of Blood & Demon Knight PS Leather daddy
