My vote goes for Empire, because it doesnt have those irritating Ewoks.

I'm going with Return of the Jedi. It's my favourite Star Wars movie of all-time. Vader is redeemed, The Emperor is defeated, Luke becomes a Jedi, Lando's "yeeehaaaaaaaw!," Slave girl Leia, speederbike chase through Endor, C-3PO's magic, Jabba the Hutt(played by my neighbor up the road), & peace being restored to the galaxY(unless you're into the Star Wars Expanded Universe where more trouble awaits our heroes).
I'm probably going to be in the minority here but I could care less. I love "Jedi." "Empire" is right behind it though.

I actually made it through the 80's and half of the 90's without seeing a Star Wars movie.
I was aware of them but they didn't appeal to me and even though I've seen them all now countless times, they never will mean much to me.
I'll go for Jedi too. Besides a handfull of dramatic scenes (Hans carbon freezing and the Vader/Luke showdown) Empire's pretty thin.
That whole opening scene with Luke being attacked by the snow beast is silly and seems to have been dreamt up simply as a way of explaining why Mark Hamill's face was disfigured.

i saw jedi when it came out at the cinema. i used to be a star wars fanatic, before the dark days, before CGI.
jedi in its updated cgi form is unwatchable to me. theyve taken out the nyub nyub song at the end and replaced it with CGI and hayden christensen. i had to buy the limited edition dvd's with the 'bonus' of the original versions for £18 a go. george lucas is evil.
anyway, empire is a much better film. the hoth battle, yoda's teaching, the asteroid field, and the dark ending.

To pick from those 2 it's Empire for me, for the stunning attack on ice planet Hoth with the Imperial Walkers. From all 6 Star Wars movies , A new Hope (or just Star Wars as it was called then) remains my special favourite because of the infamous Death Star trench attack. A pure marvel in cinema!

Jedi. I know it's an unpopular choice but the 3rd act is amazing.

I like the one with "Faceman" from The A-Team in it.

Empire is the better movie, but Return of the jedi has the best lightsaber battle of all the Star Wars movies. www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8Ynajjjzlw When the music kicks in at 02:12,I get goosebumps every fucking time!

no dice. In Empire Vader is beating Luke with one hand and shit. the Jedi equivalent of being bitch slapped. and as if that were not enough... he fucking flies! I am an Empire man and think the dark ending and the whole look of the Luke/Vader meet up is quite genius. Yoda, the historic Battle of Hoth and that sissy Luke getting his hand cut off doesn't hurt either.

Empire for me because it had the best story, Yoda was introduced, it was so dark, and it ended on a down note. Which, to qoute Dante from Clerks" is all what life is- a series of down endings.

I have to go with Empire. I love all six Star Wars movies but even I think that it was horrible that George Lucas was insert a CGI shot of Hayden over the original actor in the end of Jedi. Empire had it all: A dark story and feel, the greatest lightsaber battle of the original trilogy, a very dark and evil Darth Vader, and a downer ending that is so missing from films today. Luke getting attacked right away in the beginning set the tone for the film. It showed that they aren't going to pull any punches when it comes to their heroes. I thought that the introduction to Yoda was also wonderful and Han not acknowledging to Leia that he loves her before he is frozen in carbonite was also well done. What did Jedi have? A cute story where none of the characters had any backbone. There was no feel at all that any of the heroes were in any real danger at any time. The Emperor? He looked cool but that was it. He suffered from the monologueing villain curse. Vader was usually a man of few words and quick action. This movie he seemed bored. Empire stomps Jedi!!!!

Empire no question. Though my favorite Star Wars movie is actually the first (or fourth) AKA A New Hope. But in terms of Empire Vs. Jedi its real simple for me. Empire is just a great film all around. Its a perfect logical sequel as well as a gripping movie on its own. It expanded the Star Wars universe and made Darth Vader an even more interesting character and just as big of a threat without having to add ANOTHER death star to the mix. Jedi had an interesting and epic beginning in my opinion with the slow re-introduction of each character as they make their entrances to Jabba's Palace. After Han is rescued however the Ewoks come into play and the movie really slows down to a halt. The half of the ending with Luke Vs Vader Vs the Emperor is quite the epic showdown, but the attack on the second death star feels repetitive and the simultaneous Ewok attack on the Endor base just feels unnecessary and plain uninteresting. So Empire wins easily for me.

Anyone else wonder why the Jedi always preached about not using anger when fighting an enemy? It seems that by keeping his emotions in check in Empire he lost compared to using his anger and winning in Jedi. Same with Ben Kenobi. He used his emotions in Phantom & Sith and came out the victor. He kept his emotions in check in Clones and a New Hope and lost. I like what magicmikassa is saying about the repetitiveness in the final battle in the 2nd Death Star and how Vader didn't need it in Empire. It's almost as if George Lucas ran out of ideas for a third (or 6th) movie and thought "Huh, the Death Star looked cool in the first (or 4th) movie. Plus, didn't Vader seem like he was more of a wuss in Jedi than Empire? This didn't seem like the same Sith who tortured his daughter, Han, or even cut off his son's arm.
