There's strong evidence to suggest that it's a super-paranoid dream. Concept drawings of blue skies on Mars in the Rekall lab, the alien options package, the drawings of the reactor that appear on the monitor, etc etc. I can't remember what the result of the original Dick story was, but given the rest of his canon I'd imagine Quaid/Quail wound up with fried pre-frontals and a slack-mouthed Hawking grin in the end. Yes, the Oak takes more hits to the pills in this than any other movie ever made, including a direct high-heel shot to the groin from Stone while helpless on the floor. The gummy grimaces he pulls with every agonising blow are priceless . Recall is my favourite Strudel flick, naturally, for all the reasons that have already been listed and many more. Sadly, like the mystery of chainmail or Damascus steel, the art of crafting movies like this was lost to human knowledge sometime in the mid 90s and is likely to remain beyond our grasp and ken forever....and that, my friends, is a real kick in the balls. youtube.com/watch?v=1Bf4VoIsVuQ

Just watched it the other day.
Have not seen it in a few years and I forgot just how awesome this movie was. Arnies' 3rd best movie in my opinion, right behind Commando and Terminator 2.
I watched alot of the behind the scenes stuff too and that is really neat. They talk about how hard it was to do the special effects stuff and had they made the movie a few years later, it would have been alot easier cuz they could have done more CGI.
Glad they didn't cuz I love the old school special effects.
The behind the scenes part really made me appreciate this movie more than I already did.

I'm not surprised. Lori is one special lady. No wonder Shazza got the gig for Basic Instinct.

I'd smear her shit on toast, and eat it - slowly.
Did anyone ever see the Total Recall TV series? used to be on Sky One (UK).

Still my favorite Arnold movie that isn't The Terminator or T2. The Blu-ray isn't that great though. Ronnie Cox is brilliant as always too. "Fuck 'em. It'll be a good lesson to the others." Cold.
