The new banner inspired me to make a thread on these flicks.
My favorite of the lot is the first one of course, which is easily one of the best action film`s from the 80`s and deserves it`s place in any top ten.
A few weeks back I watched these all back to back for the first time in year`s, great afternoon.
Uncle Benny in Lethal 4 was a funny old fucker. "I`m sleeping with my wife`s two sister`s, very good, not so good when my wife find`s out."

The Lethal Weapon movies have always been great for their chases. You can count on a great one in every movie. I also like that they had a black cop and a white cop paired up without making a big deal out of it. Part 1 is the best of the bunch but they're all pretty good.

The second Lethal Weapon is definitely my favorite of the whole series. The action is awesome and in proper supply. "We're back, we're bad, you're black, I'm mad!"
I also love Joe Pesci's rants in LW2 and 4 on drive-thru's and cell phones. His phone banter with Riggs in the police station is hilarious.
Leo: Leo Getz, private investigator. Riggs: [into phone with fake accent] Private investigator? Yes, Mr. Getz, I was just wondering if you'd be willing to investigate my privates. Leo: Investigate what? Riggs: My privates, you stupid shit - shut the fuck up! Leo: Huh what? Oh, jeez, Riggs thanks. Yer costin' me alotta money on this call! How bout I beat you up? Riggs: Oh, yer a tough guy on the telephone, eh? Leo: Yeah, big telephone tough guy, hey--why the fuck and I talkin' to you on the phone? *hangs up*

But, but, but, you`re bleck. Say what you will about Mel Gibson as a person but the guy`s a terrific actor, it shows for me the most in Lethal 1 where he`s considering killing himself. I`ve always loved the jazz music that kick`s in during these film`s too.

I like the first two movies about the same. Both are pretty damn awesome. I like parts 3 & 4 a good deal as well. The toilet bomb in LW 2 is probably my favourite part. And that chick that Riggs bangs is a goddess. Speaking of the toilet bomb....it reminds me of the parody of that scene in Loaded Weapon 1. Nothin'. Takin' a shit.

I absolutely love these movies and have since I was very young. Most of the classic action movies I comment on could begin like that so if it's repetitious, I apologize.
Anyways, I think I was LW2 before LW1. My Dad had it taped off of HBO and back then, any movie that had a lot of gun play was a movie I was obsessed with. The fact that gorgeous Patsy Kensit is naked and getting fucked nicely only made me love the movie even more. Joss Ackland is also brilliant as "Diplomatic Immunity". Does anyone that is a fan of these movies even call him by his character's name? Shit, what the fuck is his character's name?
I rented LW1 from the library sometime later. It was great that my local library was not only 300 feet from my doorstep at the time, but that they also gave less than a shit about letting an 8 year-old kid rent movies like Robocop, Lethal Weapon 1, and Navy SEALS. Those were the days. 1 &2 are my favorites of the series, but I also thoroughly enjoy 3 & 4. Pesci's rant about nautical terms is the shit.
"...a bow, a stern, avast ye landlubbers, man the bilge pump. Pump yer fuckin' ass!!"

The quadrilogy of cop films are simply classic. All 4 movies are awsome, 1 is my favorite and 3 is my favorite sequel. The action is at it's best in the first, the ending was the best part.

No 80s cop comes close to being as crazy as Sgt Martin Riggs.

You're right, Will. Riggs was the craziest cop of that decade. The first Lethal Weapon was the best, followed by 2, 4 and 3.

I have very fond memories of going to see the original back in 1987. The great thing about the 80's is you pretty much went into films like Lethal Weapon or Die Hard expecting just another routine action flick. (This film was actually released on a nothing weekend in March.) So not only did you get these great action flicks, but you got them without any advance warning.
Murtaugh: It's over, you know. Riggs: What is? Murtaugh: The war.
This one's definitely the best, but I really need to get the original version on dvd. I've been watching the director's cut for too long now. I think this is actually a slightly better Christmas flick than Die Hard, since it's more of a recurring theme here. It's just not Christmas until I see Martin Riggs trying to get $100,000 worth of coke and a free tree: "Now that's a real badge. I'm a real cop. And this is a real fucking gun."
Murtaugh: "I'm gonna die on the toilet, aren't I?"
The second was a damn near perfect sequel- from the theatrical trailer all the way through to the final scene. Mel was at his peak, the comedy was great, and Patsy Kensit was incredibly fucking hot.
Riggs: Alright, I'm gonna cut the red wire. Murtaugh: A minute ago you said blue!!
Unfortunately, the third film was a bit of a letdown. The villain was pretty weak, Leo didn't really need to return, and they attempted way too many subplots. But I have a much greater appreciation for it today, and it definitely feels like a fitting end to the trilogy.
Murtaugh: Hey Riggs, you think that bird thing really helped? Riggs: Nah...I just wanted to see if you'd do it.
This felt like another step down at the time. Too many returning characters, and Riggs wasn't allowed to be as 'lethal'. But if there's one upside to the lack of good action flicks these days, it's that the older films get better with age. Part 4 may feel more like a coda than anything else, but it's still a very entertaining entry.
