Great film, story line, effects. Just really terrific. John Carpenter is one of the best directors hands-down. Russel was great, Pleasance, Borgnine too. The only problem was: A British president?

True about the British President but Donald was normally casted in Carpenter movies. Besides, who else could have delivered the "You're the Duke!" line while firing off a machine gun like that. Michael Myers should thank God that he never made Donald that mad.

One of my all-time favorite movies. I think L.A. works best as an action flick (better pace, at least) but New York is definitely the classic of the two.

Escape From New York is right on a par with other futuristic thrillers made in the '80s like Blade Runner, The Terminator (well, that was partly in the future) and RoboCop, but the latter two had more in terms of action while EFNY and Blade Runner were more about atmosphere and tension.

The first time I watched Escape From New York, I thought the creepy little guy with blond spike hair was the leader of the gang, not Duke. Even though Isaac Hayes did a fantastic job as the main villain, I always felt Romero was a bit more menacing as a character.
Frank Doubleday was also great in Assault On Precinct 13 as the white gang member.
