really? of course I had no idea. is MMA on the up and up? like I said, movie and shit over here... it's fucking huge. the "Dude/Bro's" over here are all about MMA now. the same people who weren't two or three years ago let alone in the dark ages of UFC when me and my friends got into it for real. one discipline... wow. it will blow up and you may be in a position to make a little cash being a vet, who knows?
the London Shootfighters, do they teach any Shoot Boxing/Shooto forms? I am looking into finding a decent place for that around here and with it's name and all was just wondering.

A lot of it is semantics - people have always been cross training ie a ground style + a stand up style, but MMA has only really been seen as a sport in the last few years - probably in the US as well to some degree.
There are very few proper MMA gyms here. At mine for example, there is a hardcore BJJ camp and a hardcore thai boxing camp - I'm one of the few that trains MMA there as well as BJJ and thai boxing, and the training is totally different. Everyone is scared to come to the MMA class, but it is no harder, just different.
LSF has existed since 1997, and teaches MMA. The name is just a name. Not much BJJ specialism there, more thai and wrestling. I like BJJ - it is the bomb for the ground game.
I think it is all down to the individual. Look at Machida. He's a karate man. Karate man bruise on the inside!

Had a good jiu jitsu session tonight but aching for a bit of ground n pound on Wednesday. Also on Saturday, I am going to train with some of the British Olympic wrestling guys at London Shootfighters.
How gay is that?!

fucking bad ass Will, was it traditional or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu sess? nice hook up with the Saturday shit, Olympians... this is immense. Shootfighters... sounds like it's poppin' off over there man. I got a rumble with a new guy I met at work who is supposedly a kickboxer, that was my second discipline... I will destroy him with my ground game. I hate the ground and will never take the fight in that direction myself, but I do excel in it. ask any of my partners. my secret is what I call "biting my balls" which refers to this old joke about a wrestler who put a skinny guy in a Pretzel Lock. the skinny man looked up and in front of him was a set of balls. all of a sudden an ungodly shriek was heard and the wrestler hit the canvas while the skinny guy was standing over him, the Victor. the reporter asked him "how did you accomplish such an incredible feat at your size?" the man replied "it is amazing how much strength you have when you bite your own balls" I lay in the hold for a bit and position my legs and shoulders as bet I can for popping out of the hold, lay pretending to be gassed while building a quick burst of sudden strength and pain for the parts that are pinned. then bite my fucking balls. works for me!

I only eat sushi nowadays LC. Like Shogun Assassin.
The jiu jitsu is Brazilian at London Fight Factory with Rodrigo "Burucutu" Cabral, a black belt under Leo Viera from Rio. He is the 2x Rio champ. Also Claudio Henrique who is the UK open submission grappling champ and Eduardo Ferreira, runner up in the European Championships at "Master" Black Belt level. They are all fucking amazing!
London Shootfighters was Lee Murray's gym - he's the guy that knocked out Tito in the mega street brawl after UFC 38! He is also the no.1 suspect for the recent £55 million armed robbery - the biggest in British history, and is now living in Morocco fighting extradition.
Love the sound of the technique Doodoo! My first style was Muay Thai, but now I prefer the ground game. Jiu jitsu is a great foundation for position and submissions, but strikes on the ground are my favourite. All very well, but as the mighty Bas Rutten said "never take a street fight to the ground unless you have to." Stick with the kick in the groin, left hook, right straight.

damn! I saw a video a bit ago of Burucutu at some sort of UK Nationals. hell yeah that whole crew is amazing, you are very lucky to have that much knowledge at Fight Factory. fucking Shoot Fighters is Lee Murray's shit? no way! that is fucking sick, I remember the brawl your talking about, did not know Lee's name at the time I heard of the fight but was repping "that dude" all the way against all the Tito fanboys. I fucking hate Tito, I just don't think he is that stand out or any good for that matter. Jiu Jitsu is a great foundation for submission (duh) and an extremely good foundation for positioning, I whole heartedly agree with you. my first style was Karate actually, but it was quite brutal training. and especially for a 9 year old. that is when I first started and right off the bat doing tons of deep bends, 3 point arm training (bone conditioning for the laymen) and knuckle push ups just like in the movie Budo. rough concrete and many "real" pushups. very old school, Japanese style. learned from the first person to earn a black belt under Grand Master Ansei Ueshiro, the founder of the style. I got my black in that at 15, the youngest ever in the history of Shorin Ryu. then at 19 took up a bit of Kickboxing locally. did that for maybe a year, if you are flexible enough and have a Martial Arts background there is only so much you can learn before you are able to hone yourself in certain disciplines. plus we never did much contact fighting and it was put on hold because of me. the dude (Brian Knight) was sparring with me and backed himself over by the front door. a good 6 feet away from it but I ran up on him quickly and flying kneed his ass. out the fucking door. into the parking lot. no bullshit, ask my fucking sister. she use to train but she let it all go and isn't shit really anymore. I learned a few BJJ techniques from a guy named Brett who studied at the Gracie School in Orlando. it's fairly new about three years old. picked everything else I know up in brawls and Fight Clubs. and that... is the story of how doodoo got his groove on.

Nice!
Karate was my very first too, ie 10 years old, but I never kept it going. 10 year gap till Muay Thai, then solid till jiu jitsu and MMA a year ago. Karate done well a la Machida rocks big bells.
Lee Murray is a loon. I sat next to him once on a plane to Greece. He was going on holiday with two tarts! He is also a gangland legend, so I best SHUT. My MOUTH.
Check out Claudio Henrique's cage fight on you tube. I think it is ECW. He totally owns this thai boxer but gets DQed for elbows to the neck! He still celebrates by doing some mental capoeira moves shouting "favela!". Total badass.

Sparring MMA with Claudio is no fun at all! Got a nasty mouse under my left eye. The man is a beast.

He Tong Po squared!
He always turns up to training in an ASDA T-Shirt. I guess he works in the warehouse or something non-customer facing. I doubt he works in complaints.

So what do you guys think, can Dan Henderson beat Anderson Silva? I'd love to see the title change hands, but Silva's been looking like the Terminator in his recent fights.
I think Dan's only chance is somehow take Silva down, and rain down punches and elbows.Standing up,Silva destroys Dan but of course Henderson can always land that powerful punch he has.It will be interesting to see what happens in the clinch, because Dan's wrestling is no joke.
I'll be brave and say,Dan by vicious ground and pound destruction ;D

i wouldnt like to predict either way. ive not seen that many henderson fights. his style is probably the best tailored for beating anderson though, provided he fights to a randy couture style gameplan. hes got to try and stifle anderson - which is going to be difficult. im just hoping for a classic fight, which it should be.

I've seen Dan fight a few times, he is a solid fighter in my opinion. a decent all around fighter in what I have seen from him. but Silva is my man! I first saw him beat the shit out of somebody in the first round but what really impressed me was his form, it is a thing of beauty.
plus I coming from the school of the flying knee, when I saw him do a flying knee with speed of a laser... I absolutely loved it. he's also a lanky skinny man with long legs much like myself. we lanky fighters usually have similar techniques, Anderson has taught me a few ways to use my long legs to my advantage. leg chokes and what not.
you want a good example of the Thai Clinch, take a look at his.
about Dan's ground and pound, don't forget Silva has black belt under Nogueira.
I take Silva but it will be a battle.

Silva or Dan by TKO in the 4th. Now that's a prediction!
