I know Cohaagen has played these, they are submarine simulators by Ubisoft.
I have both SH3 and SH:Wolves of the Pacific (henceforth referred to as SH4). SH3 centers on German U-Boats and SH4 focuses on American fleet boats in the Pacific. While SH4 has much better graphics, I am going to go with SH3 as the better game. It is a lot easier to play and I just like U-Boats better. They are much more maneuverable and can dive a hell of a lot deeper than their American counterparts. The dive time in SH4 is atrocious and they turn like a morbidly obese, pregnant Yak on downers. The U-Boat would run circles around them. I remember seeing a show about U-Boats and a former sailor said that the U-Boat was designed "to be a surface craft that had the option of going underwater".
I think that for the next installment, they should capitalize on the graphics enhancements made with SH4, only shift focus back to the Atlantic.
Not to mention, no one can fuck with the Type XXI. Nobody. I can't believe a submarine so ahead of it's time could exist then, but then again, I can considering the technological breakthroughs made by those people.

I entirely agree with you re: SH3 vs SH4. I've got a pretty big boner for the Nazis as far as WWII submarines go and, in all honesty, the US military gives me the fucking pip whether it is 2008 or 1942. BTW Voelk, if you haven't got GWX2 for SH3 you must get it now. It's basically a freeware mod that completely improves every aspect of the game and adds dozens of new ships and other units (AI subs, wolfpacks, etc). You can get it at the Subsim website. It changed my SH3 experience completely and is about 1gig in size - i.e. fucking massive. www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=102096

I meant to ask you about that mod. I had tried unsuccessfully to download it. I followed your link and am now going to give it another try as Vista might have fucked it up for me.
What are some of the cool aspects?

There are so many good things about GWX that I can only say that there is SH3 before it, and SH3 after it. It adds things like aerial rockets, Mosquito Tetse aircraft (with working Molins Gun), schnorkel radar-warning antennae, new damage models for subs and ships (ships sink by flooding, not hitpoints), anti- u-boat H/K task forces, about 50+ new ships and aircraft, British/Italian/US/Soviet AI submarines, the Kiel, Panama and Suez canals, Black Sea and Far East playable campaigns (operate out of Jakarta in a XID2 if you want), every major sea operation of the entire war scripted and viewable if you wish, resupply at sea by tankers and Milchkuh subs, new sounds and graphics, etc etc. I can't play SH3 since I got my new graphics card, but for all the difference it makes with other games I still consider retro-installing the old one so I can play GWX. It's that good. gwx.mysite.orange.co.uk/The GWX site gives advice on Vista.

Holy Christ! I am going to download it as soon as I finish uninstalling the game. I am following their instructions for installing it on Vista and that is the first step. I am way pumped for this.

I'm reading it as we speak. I am floored by the immensity. PS: Thank you for everything. I was pretty pissed when this didn't work for me. I actually could not even get the 1.4 patch to work so the game had A TON of problems and I was throughly irate because of that as well. I had been reduced to playing just the single missions because when I would try to play my career, the game would shut down after 15 seconds or so.
