A pretty good camp slasher from the early 1980s aka the golden age of slashers. Campfire tale tells of the legend of Madman Marz, a farmer who killed his family with an axe one day. Was hanged & axed later on only to disappear. Comes back to kill if you speak his name above a whisper. His name is spoken & he comes back to kill. One of the kids strays off from the trail & one by one, the counselors go looking for him, also known as getting slaughtered one by one. The kills are decent but nothing to write home about. The kill that involved a girl getting her head cut off when she's working on a truck when Marz jumps on the hood is pretty cool though. And a guy that looks like John Oates gets a mid-air backbreaker. It had one of the most unsuspenseful chase scenes ever. Ugly female runs from Marz....& hides in a fridge. Not very suspenseful at all, especially compared to the subway chase scene from Maniac, which I'd say is one of the best chase scenes ever. Full of suspense. Madman also has a typical synth score, which always add to slashers. "Bah bah baaaaaaah" The ending kind of threw me off because I thought that Gaylen Ross(credited as Alexis Bubin for some reason) was going to survive. Wrong. Overall, it was pretty good. Movies like My Bloody Valentine, Friday the 13th 1 & 2, The Prowler, Maniac, The Burning, & Happy Birthday to Me are better though. Still, it's a good watch if you like slashers.

My review for this should be going up at Oh, The Horror! soon. One of my all-time favorites.
