A pretty good sequel to Psycho. At least I think so anyway. Lila Loomis(Crane) from the original & her daughter Mary are trying to drive Norman Bates crazy after he's released from the mental institution. Killings start to being once more but is it Norman this time? Or is it Lila & Mary? Or someone else?
I thought Perkins did a great job portraying Norman in this movie. He was extremely sympathetic & made you really feel bad for Norman despite what he had done in the past as Mother. He was a bit sympathetic in the first film as well but I think he took it to a new level in this one. I really loved the Jerry Goldsmith score to Psycho II as well, especially the piano parts. Meg Tilly was deceptively sweet then altogether sweet when we find out that she truly cares about Norman. Dennis Franz was a scumbag as Mr. Toomey. Robert Loggia played Dr. Raymand, Norman's doctor that truly cared about him being well. Vera Miles returns as Lila. She was a twat but understandable after what happened to Marion in the original. She got what was coming to her though.
The twist at the end was kinda "meh." Mrs. Bates not really being Norman's mother & someone entirely different was a bit lame. I think they revealed in Psycho III that Mrs. Bates was really his mother & that the lady claiming to be his mother was really his aunt. She got poisoned with some tea & a shovel to the back of her head for her troubles.
It's a good horror/suspense/mystery sequel that really could've been terrible like a lot of sequels are but it truly turned out to be good.
