The scene where Matrix encounters Diaz upstairs always makes me wonder. Why would anyone be foolish enough to put themselves in a situation where they would very likely be killed/maimed. Diaz is sitting calmly in a chair, his rifle at least 3 feet from him. Matrix has the obvious advantage. I love the scene, I just can't help but question Diaz's poor decision.
I partly wish Diaz lasted longer in the film as he seemed pretty interesting. However it's such a spectacular scene that I'm really torn between the two.

I think he was arrogant enough to think John would've cooperated...right? Definitely one of the many hilarious scenes in Commando.

He defiantly didn't know Matrix that well ;D
Another scene with Diaz, when he opens fire on Jackson, Harris, Matrix and Jenny, why was he ordered to do so?, i understand killing the protection but if they needed John to do the job why open fire on him?

I don't think he was firing on them. Obviously Matrix grabbed Jenny and got her down out of instinct once the shooting began, but I think they were just trying to kill the 2 guards, not Matrix and Jenny.
As far as Diaz goes, what really put him over the top was holding the hand-made card Chenny made for her Daddy. I have a daughter myself and I can only imagine seeing some scumbag sitting in a chair holding some of her artwork while telling me to "Mellow out". I probably would have forgone the shooting and just strangeld him with my bare hands.

I think Diaz was trying to shoot him. I would have shot at him if I knew it was my assignment to be the messenger.
Matrix smelt him coming and dodged the bullets.
Anyway, it was a great scene.
