By Pissant Soldier This thread is for discussion of the Maniac Cop films, written by Larry Cohen & directed by William Lustig. I help run a MC site(see signature). Give it a look if you're into the trilogy. Discuss.

I hear they're awesome, but I still have yet to see them.

You should give 'em a watch whenever you can. The Synapse version of Maniac Cop is the way to go but if you want cheap, pick up the Legacy version for a few bucks. Maniac Cop 2 isn't out on DVD in the States but can be imported easily from the UK. The Contender DVD is pretty nice. It's out on VHS but goes for around $10 or more. Maniac Cop 3 is cheap & easy to acquire. The First Look version looks great & is pretty cheap. I made up a petition for a region 1 Maniac Cop 2 release about a year ago or so. Not too many signatures but still not too bad. www.petitiononline.com/mc2dvd/petition.html

Just finished up the second and third ones, both excellent films. I saw the first over the summer and that stands out as my favorite. All three have excellent casts and it's good to see Robert Davi play a good guy. This my ranking:
Maniac Cop Badge Of Silence: Maniac Cop 3 Maniac Cop 2

I've yet to see the 2nd installment, but it's really been killing me, so I will have to hunt down a VHS version.
I really miss the Maniac Cop forum, Kimble. Although I think maybe five people were ever really active. It's very unfortunate.

You'll like the second one, man. It has the Supermarket Killer from Cobra at the beginning. And he's basically robbing a convenience store & has bad teeth. It's gold. It also features Leo Rossi as a psycho with bad teeth & a huge ass beard. Finding it on VHS should be a lot easier(and cheaper) than finding the DVD. People are selling it on Ebay for $100+. Yeah the board basically became a tomb so we decided to take it out behind the barn & blow its brains out. I wish it would've been more active because it was a nice little community when it was. Thanks for being a part of it.

Sorry your board closed down man. I always wanted to join and contribute, but sadly I've only ever seen one MC film a fair old while ago.

It's ok. It's one less thing I have to worry about.

Although the board is down, I'm still glad you still have the site up, Kimble.

Thanks man. The site will remain since it gets pretty decent traffic, especially provided that the content is about three obscure B-movies.

Well, one of my friends found this for free on Netflix on his Xbox 360, so I finally got to see this.
Holy fucking shit is this movie incredible.
Everything about this film kicks major ass from the Police HQ Massacre to the strip club music to the credits. The Maniac Cop rap is something of legend.
Does anyone have a soundtrack to this? I am going to immediately search for its availability online.
Now they just need to release in Region 1 format.

I don't think they released a soundtrack for Maniac Cop 2. I have the soundtrack to the first on vinyl. I have MP3s of it as well as the Maniac Cop Rap if you want 'em.
Maniac Cop 2 is out on region 1 but the DVD goes for a lot on Ebay. It was released under the radar in October 2007. It's not that great anyway. It's in fullscreen & is a little above VHS quality.

Hey Kimble which Maniac Cop DVD offers the best features and is also UNCUT. In other words if you didnt own the movie which edition is best to get? I have the R2 version but it runs at 81 mins and have heard theres a longer version.

There's a French steelbook that has the entire trilogy in it. The first two have interviews with Bill Lustig and Larry Cohen. Don't think the third has any special features.
The best version of the first is Synapse Films' region one release. The region one releases of MC2 & MC3 don't have any features on them.
There is an extended version with extra scenes filmed for Japanese TV but they are pretty worthless. The DVD from Legacy Entertainment has this version but the quality is horrid. Like it was ripped from a poor VHS transfer. Last I checked it went for cheap.
