Over the past year, old school action movies have slowly made a return to the big screen, with the likes of Death Sentence and Rambo and there's The Expendables coming up (as long as it's rated R). Let's just say that the restrictions as to how much mayhem and violence can be shown were lifted and we found ourselves back in a scenario equal to the '80s. If any of you had the chance, what sort of action movie would you have made?
My buddy and I were kicking around this idea of a near-psychotic avenger who wears a mask to hide his disfigured face and a red and white motorcycle jacket. He goes after the men responsible for his plane crash and halfway through the story, it is revealed that he was once part of a lethal underground vigilante unit whose leaders let the power get to their heads, in the process becoming barbarians. The final part of the story would see our hero being hunted a la Hard Target, before finally getting even with his main enemies.
What inspired us was a novel by David Morrell called Testament.

I'll tell you somethin: I've been writing unfinished action scripts for a long time now.
My first one, which was really going well for me, was a gun-fu flick about two Chinese brothers in New York--one became a cop, the other's a member of the Yakuza. When the cop brother struggles to get his brother out of the gang, he learns from him of the next deal. A big shootout and chase happen, then when the head boss returns to the headquarters he learns that the cop has a brother in the gang, so he kills him. The cop goes on a revenge mission.
That script was half-way thru and was going really well until I stopped when I found out that the plot is almost exactly like John Woo's A Better Tomorrow.
I also started another one about a man who lives in a small town who goes walking w/ his girlfriend one night and they get stuck-up by a robber. He kills him in self defense; since that sort of thing rarely happens in their small town, the judge gives him the option of either going to jail or leaving town & not returning. He leaves and we see him return 4 years later. He discovers that his girlfriend was murdered by this gang that has terrorized the village and resides within it. The man desides to take it upon himself to kill them.
I spoke of this script here on CF a year ago and didn't quite get lots of respect from what I remember. I kinda just stopped working on it eventually.
However, other ideas are still brewing these days. Just wait and see.

However, other ideas are still brewing these days. Just wait and see. Your ideas sound great. Revenge stories which promise some good old-fashioned violence. It would have been cool if you had finished that one about the guy who leaves town. That would have been neat. Actually, I went on the RoboCop Archive discussion forum recently and pitched my idea, but one poster said it was a load of rubbish, saying it was plotless and just relied on violence to sell itself. It did put me right off, but you can't always think too much about what other people say. For the villains of my story, I was thinking about these unknown actors who had previously played baddies in British soaps.
