This is a post I made on the old board.
When Cooke arrives at the Sunspot Hotel, there is a slim window with translucent glass in the door to the room. You can definitely make out the details of what's going on inside but vaguely since the glass is translucent looking. Seeing Matrix's silhouette would definitely be something that would be easily visible. Cooke would have to be retarded to think that gigantic motherfucker is little, loveable Sully. From the looks of it, it appears that Matrix walks right in front of the window for a split second. Either that or really close to it. When Cindy opens the door, Cooke is already looking in so he had to have seen some sort of movement.
Maybe I'm just looking into this too much or maybe this is a great mystery just like Sully's car repairing itself briefly before the visit to the Sunspot Hotel.

I always thought that Matrix was hiding in the bathroom off to the side, out of sight?

I always thought that Matrix was hiding in the bathroom off to the side, out of sight? He went to the bathroom to turn on the shower, and went back to the main room. That's when Cooke pulled up, so Matrix went behind the door, but it would've been easy for Cooke to see Matrix in the window. All he had to do was look.

Hmmm. So, assuming Matrix was indeed in the room how could Cooke have not spotted him? Surely spotting such a massive object as John Matrix would be easy, right?..... WRONG!!!Here is my theory: As we all widely accept, John Matrix is one gigantic motherfucker. Now, under normal everyday logic you would think that Cooke surely must have seen Matrix, because Matrix is so massive. However, I hypothesise that the reason Cooke couldn't see Matrix was because Matrix is so massive. What is important...is gravity! All matter, including you and I, generate their own gravitational fields. Now, some objects, such as the Earth, are so gigantic that their gravitational field is very strong. It is a reasonable assumption to presume that John Matrix is so fucking massive he generates his own powerful gravitational field. Still with me? Good - now, we've all heard of "black holes" - which are collapsed stars whose matter is so densly packed that they generate very strong gravitational fields (figure 1). So strong, in fact, that nothing, not even light, can escape from the effect of the gravity (hence the name, black hole). Figure 1. - A black holeAgain, looking at the sheer bulk of John Matrix (figure 2), it's reasonable to assume that his gravitational field strength would be on the same order of that of a black hole. Figure 2. - John MatrixNow, following this to it's logical conclusion, I deduce that John Matrix is so massive that light cannot escape from his gravity. Since no reflected light comes off Matrix, he merely appears as a black void. Thus, Cooke couldn't see Matrix - only a gigantic motherfucker of a black void![/i] Q.E.D. p.s. you may think there is a flaw in this theory - "How then at other times does Matrix appear visible?". Well, I would assume this is because Matrix can bend and change the laws of Physics at his own free will...when Matrix talks, the laws of Physics better fucking well listen if they know what's good for them.

Thanks for your kind comments, guys. You're all invited to the party I'll be having to celebrate receiving the Nobel Prize in Physics for this ground-breaking theory.

Another good question is how did Cooke not see Sully's car when he pulled in? I know it miracuoulsy repaired itself after the flip, but when Matrix parks it at the Sunspot it is back to being banged up. If you watch, Matrix parks it on an angle and when Cooke pulled in he would have easily been able to see the left side of the car, even though he did not drive directly buy it.
Wouldn't Cooke be a little worried when he saw Sully's car looking like this? I find it hard to believe he would not know what Sully's car looked like, considering they probably all drove to the place where Matrix was tied up early in the film.
It's kind of a small flaw, but if you watch it you will see what I mean. Just another reason that the more you watch this movie, the more stuff you seem to find.

Outstanding CJM!
Matrix eats Green Berets and all light for breakfast. He must have been very hungry
I'd like to extend another theory... Matrix could have been standing right behind Cindy. Cooke's eyes were plastered to those flapjack titties and wouldn't have noticed.
