OK, action fans. I was reading on another forum that Resident Evil was shit cos it had a female lead.
Kept thinking about this? As action fans, would it be
A - shit to have hot chicks kicking R-Rated Ass in a move.
B- Chicks can't sell action, I don't want to see it

I think watching Aliens and Terminator will help most people answer the question: )

Hi Kurt - yep, but they're classics of the genre, regardless.
The thread at Action Fans went on, and it seemed there was pretty much a fifty-fifty split on this, but the general consensus was that female heroines were acceptable as long as they were believable.
Sarah Conner in this instance is a good case in point. She looks built and able to handle herself which isn't always the case.
There was also a lot of commentary on fight choreography and how the fights should represent the greater strength of the man and so forth.
It was interesting because we're quite prepared to accept Arnie carrying a tree-trunk on his shoulder and ripping a phone box out of the floor etc, but the demand (in this tiney tiny straw poll) that girls have to work harder!

*lol* No, we're trying to get an action movie off the ground at the moment, we've got a great cast attached already, but first and foremost, I'm a fan and it's important to know what other fans want/expect from a female action movie. So whilst the script is good to go, it can be tweaked.
I had a lot of great stuff about the aesthetics from the action forum: for instance, it seems the general consensus is while having beautiful girls kicking ass is great, people would like not to have to suspend their disbelief too much... so the girls have to look like they can kick ass and be like they'd break their arm if they actually hit someone. So, if we get the cash to make the movie, this is something that I'd feed into the production.
I'm not saying people want muscle-chicks, but they should be lean and have a little definition... stuff like that.
Cheers
Russ
