From 1968 and up to 1972 Robert Fripp and solid group of gifted and upcoming musicians were known as the King Crimson.
Unfortunately just as their debut and prog classic In the Court Of The Crimson King had came out, the band itself had already began to crumble.
While Fripp remained Crimson's ultimate leader, he did have some trouble finding the right sound and right musicians.
By 1972 after some ups and downs, Fripp lured Yes drummer Bill Bruford over to the "dark side", and gave him more freedom than he ever had with his former band. Along with bass player and lead vocalist John Wetton, "madman" Jamie Muir and David Cross on violin, Fripp had finally found the ultimate version to his new King Crimson.
The sound where noisy and raw and nothing like the earlier versions of King Crimson. From 1972 to 1974 King Crimson would release some of the heaviest stuff ever recorded.
But after making 3 classic's in a row, with the masterpiece Red as their final album, Fripp decided to end the show for now and rather take a break which lasted up to 1981 where they once again reformed with a new and different sound.Any other King Crimson fans out there?
