Charles "Corky" Withers (Anthony Hopkins) gets a pretty rough first meeting with the entertainment business, as his debut stand up show ends in failure. In anger and sheer frustration, he lashes out at the audience who is shocked. His mentor later tells Corky that he must have something of his own. Something special, and original.
A year has gone, now a new and improved man, Corky has taken the entertainment business with storm, along with his "partner", the naughty and loudmouthed puppet Fats. His agent Ben Greene (Burgess Meredith) who is man with a nose for talent, tells Corky that he has something going on here.
But when a big TV company wishes to go for Corky and make him a big star, he suddenly panics and rushes out of town. Corky decides to take a break and travels to his old home town. There he meets up with the love of his life, Peggy (Ann-Marget), who at first doesn't recognize him at all, but the two seems to catch on pretty fast. He gets to stay at one of the cabins she owns. Romantic tensions happens between the two, but not everyone is happy about this.
One of them is Duke (Ed Lauter), Peggy's husband, who has his own suspicions. The other is Corky's partner Fats. He wants to go back to the big city and become a star. And he will do anything in his power to get it that way!A creepy little gem from the 70's along with a great cast.
