Truman Gates (Patrick Swayze) is an honest and though cop but when his kid brother gets brutally murdered he decides to check out the local Chicago mob and at the same time he must try to stop his older vengeful brother Briar (Liam Neeson) from going hunting for some bad guys, hillbilly style.Patrick Swayze gave us some solid action films in late 80s and early 90s and with "Next of Kin" he does not let you down. Liam Neeson was only a couple of years away from breaking through big in Hollywood but already here he shows what a great actor he really is. Neeson kicks ass as Briar and a year later he would continue in the role as Dr. Peyton Westlake in "Darkman". Ben Stiller shows up doing one of his better roles as a cowardly mafioso along with Adam Baldwin playing a real bad looking psycho. Director John Irvin has done several fine films such as "The Dogs of War (1980)", "Ghost Story (1981)" and of course "Raw Deal (1986)" and he did a great job with "Next of Kin".
