Above The Law is easily Seagal`s most well thought out movie by far and features all his trademarks, bone snapping, shooting, fighting etc. Cast wise it features Pam Grier and the lovely Sharon Stone. It was directed by Andrew Davis who later went on to helm to such movies Under Siege and The Fugitive. Great stuff indeed. "What's happening brother?"

Above the Law is my second-favorite Andrew Davis film (fav is Code of Silence), and also has my absolute favorite Seagal performance, which is reasonably well and has none of his ego anywhere to be seen. It also has Henry Silva, one of my favorite villain actors, as the snakey Kurt Zagon, a corrupt CIA operative who uses chemical interrogation on people. The Great One is in fit form as Chicago cop Nico Toscani, who is suspended from serving on the force temporarily due to wiretapping and wrecklessly busting a wormy criminal named Salvano, who was smuggling C4. He then goes under suspicion of CIA operatives when his continuing persuit of them gets him taken way out of the game. It has some brilliant action sequences including a fight where Seagal takes a machete against multiple small-time henchmen and chops a guy's hand off. FANTASTIC! I highly recommend Above the Law to any action/Seagal/Davis fan. It's very well made and has a great story as well as novelty death of the villain. Oh, and the slimey bartender 'Sciffoo,' as portrayed by hilarious, mouse-esque actor/pianist Ronnie Barron. (R.I.P. 1997)

Quality-wise, I would say this remains Seagal's finest movie. His aikidoing is first-rate here too.

Henry Silva is one of my favourite villainous character actors. He's got one of those faces that really sells a role like this.

A very impressive debut for Seagal & easily one of his best movies. I love how the mulleted bartender appears just about everywhere. Zagon's death is priceless.
