one of the greatest series of all time. or maybe even THE best. all of the 6 films are classics with the exception being 5. im torn between 3 and 4 as to my favourite. so much stupidity, i love all the cheesy 'mans gotta do what a mans gotta do' speeches that make up 90% of the scripts. rocky balboa is entirely made up of that sort of thing and its all the better for it. that said, some of the actual ACTING is brilliant. 2 scenes stand out - in part one where mickey turns up at rockys place to beg him to let him manage him for the creed fight; and in part 3 where rocky persuades mick to go back for one last fight. tearjerking anyway, ruthless reviews a once great site came up with this piece on Drago recently which is actually quite good: [ftp]http://www.ruthlessreviews.com/reviews.cfm/id/1458/page/the_misunderstood__ivan_drago.html[/ftp]

Rocky IV is my favourite, for sure. I love how utterly ridiculous it is, and that the whole movie consists almost entirely of montages. It also has the most gloriously cheesy soundtrack of any movie, ever.

Just picked up all six films in a box set from Best Buy yesterday for $30. I also bought an older special edition DVD of Rocky for $4. I haven't watched these movies in years but will probably do so soon.
I like them in this order:
-Rocky IV -Rocky III -Rocky -Rocky II -Rocky Balboa -Rocky V

SUCH an excellent movie series! In fact, I went to a cheesesteak joint yesterday and they had specials with titles like "Clubber Lang," "Rocky Balbo," and "the Italian Stallion." Really good food.
As far as picking favorites... Rocky/Rocky IV (tie) Rocky Balboa Rocky II Rocky III Rocky V

I could watch Rocky 3 on an infinite loop playing on my television set. One of my favorite movies of all time. THUNDER LIPSssss, in the flesh BAYBEEE!!. Mr. T is the best villian ever. Almost every one of his lines is shouted except when he's trying to smooth talk Adrian I DON T ACCEPT BALBOAS CHALLENGE CAUSE HE IS NO CHALLENGE! But I'll be happy to beat him again like a dogggg.

I thought Rocky Balboa was really good even though I place it next to last on my list. I think once I view it some more, it'll might move up a spot or so. It was a good ending to the series, a much better one than Rocky V.
Did anyone watch the deleted scenes from Rocky Balboa? Andy, the bar owner was in one. He was in a wheelchair & was missing a leg(or both) because of "diabeetus."

Rocky is my favorite series of all time. Even if I had to pick one movie I like the best - it would be Rocky. Everything about it is pure genius (cheesy or not).
Speaking artistically, the first one is the best. But I enjoy watching the fourth Rocky the most - reasons are simple, Sly & Dolph, together in a movie.
At first, I didn't like Rocky V. But after watching it a couple of times, I realized there is more to it than meets the eye. I still think it's the weakest of the series, tough.
And Rocky Balboa - a perfect conclusion to a perfect series.

Cmdr. Anderson, I would tell you that you were right, but you know goddamn well I can't give that order.

This is probably the funniest scene in all the Rocky's. Stallone is obviously telling Clubber that if he wants the fight, he's got it. But he says it right after Clubber is telling Adrian to come to his apartment. I never caught this years ago but now everytime I see it I laugh my ass off. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bF_iiX1HepM

1. Rocky/Rocky III 2. Rocky II/Rocky IV 3. Rocky Balboa 4. Rocky V
The original's a classic, but Rocky III has always been a personal favorite. I love that sad little montage where Rocky has lost everything. Then Apollo shows up out of nowhere wanting to promote a fight: "We held the greatest title in the whole world!" Ah, the good ol' days, when being heavyweight champion still meant something.
Rocky IV has to be one of the defining movies of the 1980's. Seriously, I can't imagine any other decade when this film could've possibly been made. It's almost a science fiction movie when you think about it. There's a talking robot. A giant Russian that has been scientifically-enhanced. The best heavyweights in the world are two white guys, and they agree to stage a heavyweight fight for no money. On Christmas. Etc. Etc.
People can mock it all they want, but I defy anyone to catch it on tv and resist watching the whole thing. Favorite moment: Paulie falling down in the snow ("Augh! Augh!! God-damn!!!").
I thought Rocky Balboa was really good, but it can't knock any of the first four down on my list. I don't feel the same connection to it, and let's face it, it's also just a little too fucking downbeat...
...which brings me to Rocky V. The series had always ranged from Capra-esque fairy tales to 80's machismo to whatever the hell you wanna call Rocky IV. So it strikes me as a little odd that the last two entries suddenly strive for realism. I realize Stallone felt he had to justify the return trips at this point, but in the case of Rocky V, it just didn't work. I still try to give it a chance whenever I have a Rocky marathon, even though it always kills the momentum.
"That's not Santa! It's Uncle Paulie!" Adding insult to injury, Stallone seemed to have forgotten how to approach the character, and played the role like a Rocky impersonator more than anything else. It's a surreal film, but given that it had to follow Rocky IV, maybe that was unavoidable.

I still think Rocky V is criminally underrated, I love that film.
