I know not everyone is a U2 fan but I just saw U23D which is a recent U2 gig shot using the latest 3D technology.
All I can say is Holy Fucking Shit!!!!
3D has come a long way since the 80's and those red and blue glasses that gave everyone a headache.
I was wearing regular tinted glasses and the effect was unreal. There was a couple of times when I had to raise my hands just to make sure the image in front of me was an illusion.
I can't wait for James Camerons 3D sci fi movies. It's going to feel like the theatre's under attack.
From what I understand a lot of classics like Star Wars and Casablanca have already been converted to 3D but it's the new movie shot specifically for 3d that I'm looking forward to.
Anyone else see 3D?

Nah, because, like you said in the first sentence, not everyone likes U2. I don't mean to bash anyone's opinion, but I think U2 positively sucks. Why the hell does the guitarist call himself The Edge, anyway? He isn't HALF as talented as Alex Lifeson or Joe Satriani. Hopefully someone will push him off the edge, along with Chad Kroeger from Nickelback.

I'm a huge U2 fan and Bono pisses me off as much as anyone but I went to the flick to ckeck out the 3D technology.
Everytime someone in the U2 audience raised there arms I was convinced it was the guy sitting infront of me.
I was sitting there imagining myself watching a sci fi or war movie. It's going to be so cool when there's bullets and body parts flying past your head.
This is the fucking future of cinema.

How exactly does this 3D shit work, Vig? I mean, did you see it at a regular bog-standard cinema? Do you need glasses for it, or is there some kind of special projection equipment involved? If it can be introduced without too many overheads for new equipment I can see this taking off.

As far as I'm aware this technology can be used in bog standard cinemas...not sure if you need 3D glasses or whatever. I'd be interested in seeing how it looks, but I'm not going to fork out a fiver to watch U2. I'm holding out for Mojo Priest 3D.

I drove up to Dublin because there was only 3 screens in Ireland showing the flick and two of them were in Dublin.
The screen is a normal cinema screen but I think it's the projector that's different and can probably be rented out to other theatres.
The tickets weer 12 Euro .....most movie tickets are about 9.50 but everyone kept the glasses after the movie so I suppose that's where the extra cost goes.
I've never been to a movie and imediately wanted to get back in line for the same film but that all changed yeaterday.
I don't want to keep talking about U2 because I know alot of people hate the cunts but it felt at times like I was on stage, water was thrown on the crowd and i found myself ducking.
Up until now 3D was silly horror movies and cardboad glasses that didn't work. I'm sure that this U2 flick had a small budget so that's why I can't wait for James Camerons Avatar next year. He's shown some of the effects to Lucas and Spielbertg and they've been blown out of their seats.
