Van Damme`s wife is brutally murdered and he wages war against the Chinese triads. Even though the story`s straight froward, the directing, performance's and writing make this film put other recent so called "action films" to shame, including Seagal`s Urban Justice. It also has the typical Van Damme scenes, we get too see Jean Claude have a shower (lucky us) and do the dirty with his missis. Very violent, well paced and enjoyable through out. 4 out of 5

This is probably my favorite DTV movie with JCVD. It is really well-done for being "low budget" and violent as hell. The 2 old Mafiosos going to work on that guy with the drill is brutal beyond belief. Since his star fell somewhat, JCVD really had to step it up as an actor and not just an action star and I think it has served him well. The quality of his work has improved greatly even though he has lost a lot of popularity.

This is by all means Van Dammage's greatest direct-to-video flick ever. Filled with great action scenes including a freighter shootout and a high-speed chase ending in a kickass explosion.
WOD is very "film noir," which adds a sense of emotion and versatality to it. Van Damme's performance is by all means his greatest in his career, right alongside his work in In Hell, JCVD's other best dtv. Saw this movie on SpikeTV two years ago and loved it ever since. I make a point to view it once a month.
The drill scene always give me chills. "You know what we do to pieces of shit like you in Marseille?" 10/10

I'm sad to say, that I've never watched this movie. Judging by the way you guys talk about it, I need to get this movie ASAP.
How does it compare to the JCVD classics like Double Impact, Hard Target and so on. It's probably more dark and serious and dare I say, violent?

It is all that. If you go into it expecting something along the lines of Double Impact or Kickboxer, you will be disappointed.

I like dark and violent movies,so I'm very interested to see this movie.Plus it has Van Damme so I should see this anyway ;D

I bought this a few weeks ago, and it was really good for a DTV. I also liked The Order with Brian Thompson with a phony beard, and the late Charlton Heston. RIP

Just watched this movie for the first time. It's pretty fucking good It's definitely more dark and violent, than your typical Van Damme movie and JCVD gave pretty convincing acting performance. It was nice to see Simon Yam playing the bad guy,but I though he was little underused in this movie. It's good see Van Damme in more ''serious'' movies like this and that he can still evolve as an actor. If only we could say the same about Steven Seagal.

One part I absolutely love about this movie is the scene where Van Damme cries over the loss of his wife in his house--it's so well done. Van Damme's acting is superb and very convincing, and the music was great with it. So incredibly sad--then Andy Wang comes in with a katana and slices right thru the Lazy Boy.
I love this movie.

Yeah,I wasn't expecting that to happen. I loved the scene at the brothel, where Andy Wang was having his royal treatment. Andy Wang loved to play rough, but he didn't like to play with Van Damme and his shotgun. ;D

I thought the brothel scene was action-packed and very well-done, especially the bit where JCVD shoots between the hooker's legs.
Andy Wang's death was a much-deserved bloodbath.
"THAT'S FOR MY WIFE!" BOOM!

"THAT'S FOR MY WIFE!" BOOM!Yeah,it's great scene and Andy sure deserved all he got. I have to say the confrontation between Van Damme and Simon Yam was little disappointing. Maybe it's just me,but I expected Van Damme go apeshit on Yam and deliver one slow and painful death. Other than that, it's one solid flick

I expected a more explosive ending as well, but what we got was nice and chilling, not to mention extremely well-done. I would've appreciated to see Yam do some martial arts, but what was in the final product was not all that bad.
The movie is supposed to be film noir with a piss-load of violence. That's exactly what we got and Van Damme's performance was unbelievably astonishing.
Ringo Lam (In Hell, Replicant) was originally supposed to direct WOD but because of creative differences, he left and was replaced by Phillipe Martinez, who made this film perfect. Still, I would've liked to see Lam's vision of the film. So far all of his JCVD collab's have been amazing.

It's only positive thing that there really isn't over the top shooting scenes,or martial arts scenes. They tried to to something different and by Bennett's chainmail, they succeeded. ;D I too would love to see Ringo Lam's vision of this movie. More/Less action? Even more violent? By the way.if like Ringo Lam, you should check out his movie called Full Contact. It's great action movie starring,Chow Yun Fat and Simon Yam
