I'm pretty bored right now and I've got some $$$ to spend so I'm thinking about buying a games console. Like I said in the Retro Colsole thread, the last thing I owned was a Megadrive. I'm not intellectually challenged or anything but I'm not exactly clued in to which is the best these days. PS3 has more or less ruled itself out because of it's price and I'm not opposed to buying an older console either. Maybe I should make use of my PC instead..... Suggestions?

I personally like the 360. it has the best online play in my opinion and anything remotely good comes on Xbox/PS3 anyway. like Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty 4. if Playstation was any good, it's version of Call of Duty would be topping the Sales Chart. Xbox has the number 1 game with that, Playstation's is barely cracking the Top 10. the 360 has been out for a while and has out gamed and out sold the PS3. actually from what I have read as of late in many game mags is that the PS3 will have a make or break year this year. every single magazine has said it's downfall so far has been it's price and lack of a single "must have" flagship game.
ouch.
the 360 and Wii are eating your lunch, Playstation.

I'll second the 360, I had no interest in online gaming until I bought it and now I'm online most of the time. It seems to have a far better range of games out for it as well.
I played my sisters Wii at Christmas and while it was fun for a few hours, the novelty soon wore off.

In general, the 360 seems better for online gaming and more in-depth solo gaming...the Wii is more suited to 'pick up and play' and multiplayer stuff.
I've had a Wii for 6 months and I really like it. Super Mario Galaxy is absolute genius.

Xbox360, simply for Stranglehold and the online play. I can't get enough of it (stranglehold).

Looks like I'll be buying myself a shiny new XBOX360 this week so.
Will it play Shinobi?

I picked up a Playstation 3 at launch, my God what a bag of wank, one of the only semi decent exclusive is Motorstorm, and that gets old quickly, however I love Resistance mind, I thought that was an epic game, that kind of goes under looked when you compare it to games like Gear of War.

I'm gonna go with the Xbox 360, because I am a sports fan, and love playing hockey, baseball, soccer. Oh and seducing intergalactic aliens in Mass Effect. I can here the music now! "I'm gonna kiss you all over......

I played through Mass Effect, and it was a pretty good game if you like shootin' aliens and anything Science Fiction. As for Bioshock I also played through it and thought that it was pretty decent. Although it's not a game that I would play over again, it is worth a try.

I voted for the PC even though it isn't a console.
Bioshock is OK. I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as I thought I would, and the praise/fawning has been enormously over-egged. It follows the formula of System Shock 1 and 2 fairly closely (particularly the latter), crowbarring in the RPG elements in a fairly cheesy way (genetic modification, *yawn*). The production design is wonderful and immersive, but the level design is...well, pretty poor. I understand the whole "open ended" concept, but in practise it just results in a lot of running around the same areas over and over again, back and forth, fighting respawned enemies, looking for dumb shit like keys and tiny little items, and generally getting confused and lost.
As an RPG it is reasonable - not as enjoyable as, say, Deus Ex which I thought was a masterpiece and still play to this day, but a hell of a lot better than most of the shit on the go today. As a shooter, I must be honest and say there's no way I'd play it over Half Life 2.
If you want that kind of FPS/RPG hybrid experience, I'd recommend S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl (heavily patched, mind). The bugs have been fixed and there's a great game to be played. The weapons are hugely varied and exhaustive, ballistics are realistically simulated, it's enormously atmospheric and evocative, it feels decidedly different from western-produced games, and the sci-fi/real world setting is brilliant. The realisation of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone is near-perfect, and for me it was really satisfying to go through the entire game without hearing an American accent once.
I can't really explain how satisfying it is to shoot a Spetsnaz dude from 600 metres away with a silenced Dragunov. You just have to try it for yourself. And, unlike Far Cry, the mutants are an integral part of the game and not a total fucking pain in the arse.

Voted for Ps2, but its becouse i still havent got enough dough to buy me a Ps3, and the variety of the games that is out on ps3 hasent impressed me, but the last Ratchet and Clank game is a must have.
Have so many great memories with ps2, but i will hopefully have more to come, with ps3.
