This game is the videogame sequel to the action classic Hard-Boiled. Chow Yun-Fat lends his voice and his likeness, and Mr. Woo himself had every hand in every part of the game. The whole game is pure John Woo action. It's quite the VG experience. Easily one of the greatest 3rd person shooters I've ever played. This isn't the standard "every action game" where you can slow down and kill. This is what all those games TRY to do. This is authentic John Woo action. You can dive forward, dive backward, dive to the side, kick off walls, bodysurf rolling carts, slide down railings, run up railings, and even swing from chandeliers ALL WHILE SHOOTING. Easy to play, and has the most destructable environments ever put on a console. You can destroy ANYTHING. You can even kill guys by shooting the environment around them. And it's very hard to ever run out of ammo, similar to Woo's movies. I'd recommend this to anybody on here. I've spent HOURS playing it, even after I've beaten the game. I still go back and play old levels.

Stranglehold is easily my favorite video game of all time. You simply cannot TOP the immense supply of action in every second of this game.

I'm sure you'll love it, doodoo. It's a true action movie cinematic experience. Shootouts galore and you'll never play a shootout the same way twice.
Plus it has plenty of "Woo" moments. More specifically, there's a move where you just push a button, and it goes into super slo-mo with cinematic camera angles, and Chow spins around in one spot while shooting wildly, clearing the entire roomful of badguys with doves fluttering around him. Extremely similar to the alley massacre at the end of Replacement Killers, which Woo produced.
Not sure what's so "Collector" about the collector's edition. I believe it comes with a copy of Hard-Boiled and maybe some bonus material on the making of the game or something.

Hope you enjoyed it, doodoo. It's been a few months and I'm still playing it. The shootouts never get old.

I finally was able to figure out how to make the damn thing save to the hard drive last night. I just beat that one little boss guy and I am fixing to turn it on right now. the aiming speed had to be adjusted severely. first game I have really done that with actually. anyway, it is great. you all were correct as usual. I have a small problem that I don't check my health at all. I am wrapped in taking people out with style. I have plenty of life on reserve from all the cool killings. but I never check the fucking health.

Yah, I found myself so wrapped up in dodging, kicking off walls and shooting while smashing through tables and I suddenly die, having not looked at my health.

I picked this one up not too long ago and am currently having a ball playing through it. Great game. Hold right trigger on your controller and go nuts - I love it!
Totally over the top with authentic John Woo film trademarks. A bit of a bummer that you can't do proper slides along the floor and cross armed shooting, but that's just me being overly picky.
I'm currently in the parking lot stage after having taken out that hard-to-kill bastard Lok.

Finished this game last night on "Normal" difficulty.
Quite satisfying. It's been quite some time that I've played a game all the way through to its end.
The single player mode, as a few reviewers have pointed out, was a little short (maybe 3 more chapters would have been good?), but I didn't tire of it at all.
Just started playing it through again this morning on "Hard" difficulty for an added challenge. Should be interesting (as well as frustrating) to see what Zakarov's apartment and Wong's estate will be like on the higher difficulty setting.
I'm really hoping that they develop a sequel to this game soon!
I also watched an interview conducted with John Woo by IGN where he stated that he's currently working on production for a cinematic sequel to Hard Boiled(!) - who knows what to expect?

I'm a HUGE Chow Yun-Fat fan. I seriously went through periods of just buying every Chow Yun-Fat movie I could find on DVD (this was before Netflix) regardless of whether I had seen the movie. I seriously am obsessed with this guy. So when this game came out I had to buy it.
I think its a pretty fun game. I don't think its the most revolutionary game out there, but for what it is it is pretty fun. Just getting to actually be my idol is good enough for me. The fact that they actually did justice to him and even had him do the voice makes it even better. Really, there's no story it's basically just "oh great, you killed all those bad guys in that place, but unfortunately there's more bad guys in this other place" and then repeat over and over until the end. The action I have to say is pretty top notch and definitely fun to play. Basically though if it wasn't for Max Payne this game wouldn't exist. They just took the gameplay from that and expanded on it. The story however doesn't touch Max Payne and the game overall is not as well done, but still I love being able to play as Chow Yun-Fat!
