Batman (1989) everytime, Nicholson steal`s the show. He`s been using Brand X... Well said. "Ship em all! We're gonna take em out a whole new door!"

Ah yes, the "bat-tussi"......probably one of the funniest Batman scenes ever. Watch Robin too as he is listening to the music. He is really into it! www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jid6FMNHh6EAs far as the movies go I have to go with the first. Jack was brilliant in my opinion as the Joker...."Wait till they get a load of me" The only thing I hated was Robert Wuhl's character. He was okay in Arlis but in this movie I just wanted to beat the piss out of him. It's been awhile since I saw Batman Returns but with all the love for it on this site I will have to check it out here again soon.

I swear that the guy in the middle dressed as The Joker is someone that lives in the same town as me.

Batman was always my favorite superhero as a kid, and I've got a lot of love for the Adam West show and the original Batman film.
But I think the Animated Series is the best version of Batman to date. It strikes the perfect balance between comicbook and reality.
As for Batman Begins, I thought it took itself too seriously. Realism in a Batman film just isn't a high priority for me, since what attracted me in the first place was the fact that it's a fantasy character.

Batman post Adam West is all a bit gloomy and dull for me.
I prefer the Hulkster and his 70s angst over the moody 90s/00s Batman.

I'm going to agree slightly with the statement a little further back that Nicholson's Joker sucked. He's entertaining as hell, sure, but they basically just dressed Jack up in Joker garb and let him loose...it's just Jack being Jack, but in a clown outfit. Heath Ledger's Joker was less fun, but much more interesting and sinister. His joker was a character, not a characture (zing!). It's a shame he died, because there was definately a lot of scope to have him up against Batman again

It's just Jack being Jack, but in a clown outfit. And that's a bad thing why? Ledger was great but lets be honest; it was (sadly) the exception and not the rule. Jack was/is a proper star.

A few weeks ago I felt curious regarding the quality of Ledger's performance as the Joker, given that a few months ago people were super keen to throw statuettes at his dead body for a performance in a genre film. Imagine my disappointment when I discovered that his "breakthrough" menacing acting technique consisted of little more than hooding his eyes slightly and licking his lips from time to time. A shame, really, since I thought he excelled as the tight-mouthed constipated shirtlifting cowpoke.
I'm glad that people seem to have settled down since then, and perhaps we will see a creeping realisation that no amount of posthumous ingratiation towards his memory will make up for chickening out when it came to giving him the Oscar for that latter role, which was clearly a little to dicey for the corn-fed masses to accept.
The Dark Knight as a whole was mega-pretentious I thought, especially all that shit Big Mo Slater's poor brother had to read out (without laughing) at the end whilst we got an over-the-shoulder shot of Christian Bale swishing off into the night with his arse cheek implants, possibly to punch his mother before she leaves the hotel room.

I agree that Ledger's performance was blown out of proportion. He's very good in it, but if he was still alive then the hype would have been nowhere near as big.
It's interesting that two franchises, Batman and Bond, made a couple of fucking awful and tragically dumb films (Batman & Robin and Die Another Day) and now they've found success by going completely the opposite way. I do like both the re-booted franchises, but I can't bring myself to really love them. They need to lighten up and remember that they're still Batman/Bond movies.
That said, in an era when Hollywood is dumbing down a rate of knots, then I suppose I should be happy that at least someone is trying to make 'proper serious movies'.
