I'm proud to kick start this thread. Nightmare on Elm Street was the first videotape rented in my home back in 1986 and it took me almost a week to watch it through. It was so fucking scary...I couldn't sleep, wouldn't take a bath, wouldn't answer the phone etc. Getting into bed usually meant taking a running jump from the light switch to the bed just in case razor claws were lurking under the bed.

The first entry is hand`s down one of the best horror film`s to come out of the 80`s. The sequel`s are pretty solid, I really enjoyed 2 and 3, part 2`s gay as Bennett on ladies night.
Part 5`s a total shit sandwich. I really liked New Nightmare and Freddy Vs Jason mind.

A great series. The boxset is cheap over here too.

Indeed it is.
I remember a time when the box set sold for around $90+.

Excellent horror series that kinda developed into a horror-comedy, much like the Child's Play series.
I took the liberty of watching Nightmare 2 for the first time on FEARnet. Easily one of the worst-made 80s horror flicks I've seen, but my god I loved every terrifying second of it. I totally loved it when Freddy rips from Jesse's chest and kills Grady. The rest of the film is so unintentionally funny and perverse, like when the guy from Total Recall is in the S&M bar and makes Jesse run laps, followed by the naked shower whipping from Freddy.

"Open your pants to me, Quaid!" These sets are due for release this coming Tuesday: I think they'd be good if you don't care about special features & want to save space. I'm sure they'll include whatever came on the prior discs. 100% change that they're flipdiscs.

Nice covers. Can't see that second set being a big seller though.
I felt let down by Freddy's Dead when I first saw it, but I'm rather fond of it these days. It's basically not even a horror movie, more a surreal, silly black comedy, but it works for me.
New Nightmare is my favorite. Obviously the first is the best, but this one hasn't had the same kind of prominence in popular culture and so seems less familiar, and it's way better than the Scream and Urban Legend movies which covered similar ground.

Freddy's Dead is a fun movie. People take it too seriously. No wonder they hate it.
I like New Nightmare but it's a tad boring for me. The "boys have a penis, girls have a vagina" kid gets on my nerves.

I enjoyed all of them, they have have their moments. The first is of course the greatest and New Nightmare was pretty interesting, I like how Wes Craven did something completely different from the original. Freddy's Nightmares was also a kick-ass TV series.
