They mustn't have sold very well because they're £4.99 each over on www.play.com. 2 disc editions - old and new versions. the 'spin' when those discs came out 18 months ago was that they would only be available for a few months only until they were pulled from the shelves. this was a few months before christmas. im sure lucas was able to fund another gold statue of himself from the proceeds.

I thought the prequels had their moments but overall they were a complete let down.
CGI, kids, atrocious acting from solid actors, terrible dialogue.
No feeling or heart at all to them.
I remember reading an interview with Terence Stamp who said he was really looking forward to acting opposite Portman/McGregor etc. , but he ended up filming all his scenes infront of a green screen opposite a wooden post and the other actors were digitally inserted later.
That's no way to make a good movie.

I'm not 100% anti-CGI (there's a time and a place for it...but you need to rely on traditional FX and stunts too), but the Star Wars prequels to me are a textbook case in how not to use them.

The original Star Wars Trilogy is something I grew up watching. A huge part of my life & childhood. Return of the Jedi remains my favourite.
And I'm not going to lie, I like the Prequel Trilogy. I don't like them better than the originals but I do enjoy them. George Lucas can't write love dialogue worth a shit.

I am one of the very few men on the planet that hates these movies. I tried to watch them but never could get in to them. I never watched them as a kid so I think that has alot to do with it. I saw the 2 prequels in the theater and was not impressed with those either.

I too liked the prequels.
Episode I
Underrated I think, had this been more dark it could have been very good.
Episode II
A bit boring, not fond of the love story, but the film improves with more viewings.
Episode III
The Rocky IV of the Star Wars saga, non stop hardcore action and excitement.
The classic trilogy are all ace, Return of the Jedi being the best.

Hmmm...I don't like the prequels. They occasionally have moments that remind me why I liked Star Wars in the first place, but overall they're a terribly soulless trilogy.
Sadly, I felt exactly the same way to the new Indy film. Whatever movie magic mojo Lucas had back in the old days must have evaporated around 1999 onwards. Hell, the danger signs were there in 1983 with those ewoks...a warning of Jar-Jar Binks shaped mistakes yet to come...

The original films were very important to me as a kid, but are not something I revisit often. I haven't watched them since the `97 re-release, despite having picked up the dvds back in 2003.
However, they were airing on cable over the Thanksgiving weekend, and I caught a bit of Empire. Even though you can spot every matte line, those old paintings still look better to me than modern cgi. Maybe it's just because I know they physically existed, so they have more substance in my mind as a result.
The prequels were fun, in the sense that we had a mini-repeat of the Star Wars era (ie. merchandise; marketing; box office records; etc.) during those years. But other than that, the old magic just wasn't there. I could blame the over-reliance on cgi, but maybe basing a Star Wars film around a trade dispute was a factor as well. Whatever the reason, I haven't revisited them since they were in theaters and don't own the dvds.
Both trilogies were recently given their own separate boxset, so I may finally pick the prequels up. I have read that The Phantom Menace contains a great documentary, but I doubt I'd ever make it all the way through it.
