Starship Troopers caused much debate on the old board. I remember some of our Scottish breathern despised the movie. I for one have always loved it...saw it twice in the cinema and still find things to like about it over ten years later. Not too be taken too seriously and it's got the same satirical tone as Robocop. Pros - Michael Ironside, Paul Verhoven, Jake Busey, Clancy Brown, Doogie Howser, " They sucked his brains out!"... The CGI still looks good even after 10 years and there's no shortage of bugs and humans getting slaughtered. Cons - The cardboard cast of pretty faces who dominate the screen. Haven't seen the sequels but I hear they're not too bad.

I've always enjoyed this movie. The CGI doesn't particularly bother me much in this one but is still pretty lame. This movie is action-packed & entertaining as hell. Really bloody too!
I have it in my collection & need to watch it soon. It's been awhile.

I watched this today for the first time in about five year`s or so, I really enjoyed it, I don`t it`s half as good as RoboCop or Total Recall but it`s still a hell of a fun flick.
Ironside`s the man in it too!

I've always despised ST. The acting was atrocious the special effects were comically bad. Just didn't do anything for me.

I always liked this movie. Lots of good violent action and Ironside is all charisma as always. The pretty face actors are annoying, especially Casper Van Dien, but the rest of the movie is good enough to make you look past their shitty acting.

Has anyone seen the third film yet?

I just picked up the trilogy boxset as a blind buy, having never seen the original before. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. It's got a nice "mini-epic" feel to it, complete with Gary Busey's son! Loved the part where the guy's head explodes in training, and Rico yells for a medic. (Shades of Robocop's, "Somebody call an ambulance!" scene.)
Haven't got around to the sequels yet, but I'm curious to see how Van Dien's return in part three turns out.

The original is a classic, saw it when it first came out and have loved it ever since. Jake Busey was great, I hope he turns out to be like his father. Ironside, Clancy Brown, and the gay gym teacher from A Nightmare On Elm Street 2 was also great. It is a fun little movie.
Never seen the sequels though.

I saw the first one when I rented it on tape back in 1997. I've always loved it, but these days I need to be in the mood to watch it--same goes for Terminator 1+2.
The sequels are far from good, trust me. The 2nd sucks and has little laser-beam guns to kill the poor CG bugs with. I haven't seen the third, but it might be good, seeing as it's written/directed by Ed Neumaier (RoboCop).

That'll be me, then ;D
I think it is wank. I get that it is a satire/piss-take of war propaganda/B-movies etc. etc. but aside from a few cool bits, it is mostly total shit. I don't get how most of the rest of you think it is good, or even a classic.

I hardly think it's a classic. I find it to be a fun, entertaining movie that's good to pass some time.
The guy that got his brains sucked out was the asshole that stole Kelly Kapowski from Zack Morris on Saved By the Bell. Serves him right.

I don't get how most of the rest of you think it is good, or even a classic. I don't like it very much either. Recreating typical soap opera BS "ironically" doesn't suddenly make it funny or entertaining, it's still tedious. The second film is even worse because the lighting is so poor it is genuinely unwatchable, I gave up after about 10 minutes. The guy that got his brains sucked out was the asshole that stole Kelly Kapowski from Zack Morris on Saved By the Bell. Serves him right. I like it now.
