Simply my favorite action star, alongside Strudel, Norris and The Great One. Yeah, he's had some drug/alcohol problems, divorced 3 wives, and supposedly gouged out a stuntman's eye at one point, but just take one good look at Bloodsport and all of that can take a long walk off a short plank.

I like a handful of Van Damme movies(the essential Van Damme) but he's probably my least favourite action star out of main gang.

JCVD is the man. I think the first movie I remember watching with him in it was Universal Soldier. I am sure I saw others when I was very young but did not yet grasp the greatness presented before me. I really liked UniSol and Double Impact and I remember going to see Nowhere to Run in the theater. I didn't follow JCVD for many years until CF started up and I found out that my friend Steve was a huge fan. He showed me Bloodsport and In Hell and I was back on track. I picked up some classics and some of his DTV work. I especially enjoy Wake of Death. He has become a much better actor over the years and I am happy that he is still releasing quality work for his fans.
Personally, I have heard that he is an extremely nice guy but has had a tough time battling problems with drugs.
My JCVD collection has grown quite large over the years. I own the following movies:
Black Eagle Bloodsport Timecop Kickboxer Double Impact Hard Target Universal Soldier Nowhere to Run The Order Desert Heat Legionnaire Wake of Death In Hell Second in Command Death Warrant

First JCVD film I ever saw was when I rented Kickboxer at a very young age (5-ish) from my local blockbuster. After that, I got really into his kicks and rented Street Fighter relentlessly (about 7 times total) as a child because of those that flying kick out of the elevator. I kinda lost track of Van Dammage in the late 90s, but was aware of Double Team and whatnot. It wasn't until about 2004 that I started to get back into JCVD flicks. Now he's my favorite action star.

My Van Damme collection isn't really that huge:
Bloodsport Kickboxer(part of the Kickboxer box set I own) Hard Target
The only movie that I want to add to that is Universal Soldier for the time being. I may add more in the future but for now, that's all I want to own.

AWOL/Lionheart is really good.
no retreat, no surrender is also absolutely hilarious. van damme isnt really in it, but every line is quotable. every character in it is laughable.
i may start a new thread on it...

I forgot to add that one to my list. I also want to get Death Warrant. I could probably get both for about $5 a piece.

Van Damme was great when he was silly. His newer "serious" stuff does nothing for me.

I just watched Missing in Action and found out he was a stuntman. That's a pretty cool connection right there.
