One of Woo's best Hollywood efforts.
A (somewhat forgotten) true 1996 action classic, says this observer.
John Travolta and Christian Slater star as two airforce pilots who go on an assigned flight of the B3 stealth bomber containing 2 nukes. When Major Deakins (Travolta) goes through with a plan to steal the nukes and hold them for ransom cash, Capt. Hale (Slater) must do everything in his power, along with a female park ranger, to stop Deakins from following through with the rest of his plan in the Utah desert.
This movie has a very special place in my heart for making me really like John Travolta as an actor. He's very charistmatic and wild as Major Deakins, and in fact a convincing villain. Even the way he replies to one of the men working with him is excellent and at times quite humorous.
Pritchard: You assured me everything would be going smoothly!
Deakins: Everything is going smoothly, I assure you.
Even Christian Slater is pretty good in this flick and my favorite role in his career, other than in Kuffs (yeah). He has some cool action scenes in which multiple bullets are pumped into the bad guys. One of my favorite bits is when a henchman gets his chest chewed open by a military helicopter, causing him to fly off the train with a meaty hole in his solarplex.
Sure, this one doesn't have ALL of the intense, balletic action John Woo features in his movies, mostly due to Graham Yost's script, but it does have a very stunning shootout in an abandoned mine.
In addition, the film also features and award-winning score from composer Hans Zimmer (Drop Zone) which fits very well and has a really cool vibe too it. Very well done.
