Some of you might remember him from the 1971 road movie Vanishing Point as Dodge Challenger-driving dude Kowalski. I feel if he had the chance, he could have been a gritty mainstream action hero. He could have been best at playing adventurers, detectives and private eyes.
Watch Fear Is The Key and you'll see how good he can be at playing a believable, tough hero.

I enjoyed Vanishing Point. The story meandered a bit but his performance was very good.

Vanishing Point is a masterpiece. one of my all time favourites. that said newman is a bit wooden in it. he kind of sleepwalks through it content to rely on an effortless charisma which doesnt quite exist.
still a breathtaking film though. the car chase scenes, the soundtrack, the cinematography, supersoul. all first class.
