Is there anyone who's gonna buy this or has already listened to / downloaded it?
I've heard at least two tracks (The Day That Never Comes and Cyanide) and it pretty much sounds like the old Metallica to me, the way they sounded on ...And Justice For All. Lars' drums also sound as if they'd been recorded in 1982 ;D.

I get a magazine called Classic Rock and they do excellent reviews. If they give it a high rating out of 10, say between 7 and 10, then I'll get it.

This is the one produced by Rick Rubin, yes? If so, while I'm no Metallica/Thrash expert, I'd be very surprised if he produced something as vapid and sloppy as St. Anger.

He did some early Slayer stuff like Reign In Blood and AC/DC, too, so he has a good history with heavy rock / metal.

I remember St Anger getting 9/10 in Metal Hammer when it came out, so I don't trust magazines opinions one bit. The Day That Never Comes is ok, trying to recreate 'One'. Fair enough. Failing, but yeah well done for trying. The other two ones released so far are also average. Lars' drums sound shit, not St Anger shit, but having them so far up in the mix makes his terrible playing sound even worse. He can't play for shit, it's just embarrassing now so why draw attention to it? James has been at his singing lessons for too long, he just sounds like exactly what he is - A rich middle aged man who has spent the last 15 years attempting to be a country singer trying to do thrash vocals again, and it sounds gay. That's why i like the first half of TDTNC, at least the vocals fit the music. I'm surprised they didn't hear the new Testament album and just call it a day when they compared the two. Or at least consider finally sacking Lars. At the very least mix it properly. The guitars sound fucking lame, thin and have no punch so that when there is a good riff (and to be fair there are some) it doesnt sound like a thin stream of piss dribbling out of the speakers. Bottom line - if this wasn't Metallica, no-one would give a shit. In fact they'd probably do a LOL or a ROFL What's even worse is that i'll probably buy the fucker to make absolutely sure

When I said the songs sounds million times better than anything in St.Anger,it doesn't mean much. I would rather dip my cock in acid and smash my balls with a sledgehammer, than listen to that piece of liquid shit ever again! I think Metallica is trying too hard in these new songs. The song structures are odd,it's like they decided to put three songs in one.The Day That Never Comes is like that. When it starts,it sounds like 'Fade to black',couple minutes later comes the 'One' moment and then the fucking Maiden rip off! It's a noble effort, but the song doesn't ''flow'' naturally like Fade and One. I think the album will be good, but not great.Metallica doesn't know how to make great albums anymore It's sad but true

Now I'm far from the resident Metal buff around these parts, but I've listened to The day that never comes...and it's pish.
If they wanted to sound like Nickelback trying to sound like Metallica, then mission accomplished.
I don't hold out much hope for the rest of the album but to be honest I'm not fussed.

Death Magnetic is defo a vast improvement over St. Anger and feels more like a traditional metal album, but it's nowhere near as great as their early stuff. It just doesn't have that same power and finesse. For me, the best tracks are Suicide & Redemption, Broken, Beat & Scarred, All Nightmare Long and My Apocalypse. Cyanide and Judas Kiss aren't bad. It's high time that Hetfield, Ulrich and co. pulled their fingers out and released specially remastered CD editions of their '80s stuff. They should do deluxe sets, like U2 did with their old shit recently. This is how they should do it : KILL 'EM ALL (1983) CD1 : Original album CD2 : No Life 'Til Leather EP RIDE THE LIGHTNING (1984) CD1 : Original album plus the demo version of Ride The Lightning CD2 : Donington '85 MASTER OF PUPPETS (1986) CD1 : Original album CD2 : Their show at The Green, Oakland from August 1985 which featured a cracking version of For Whom The Bell Tolls ...AND JUSTICE FOR ALL (1988) CD1 : Original album CD2 : One of their British shows from '88/'89 Just imagine what things would have been like if this fella had still lived on -
