Does anyone here actually give a shit about this series? I don't think it's anything great. I watched the first one when it came out in theaters because I heard a lot of hype about it. I came out of the theaters disappointed because it wasn't as great as it was built up to be. It was still pretty good though, especially for modern horror from this decade.
I watched the third one when it came out too & thought it was ok at most.
I haven't seen the rest nor do I really have a desire to do so.
I've heard people compare Jigsaw & the Saw series in this decade to the popularity of Freddy Krueger & the Nightmare on Elm Street series in the 1980s. They've said that it has even surpassed NOES & Freddy Krueger's popularity. Complete bullshit. Let's see if people still talk about this series in 20 years. I know NOES is still pretty popular these days.

I think they're alright and I am planning on seeing the fifth one as it happens, but they take themselves way too seriously (sometimes pretentiously) for the kind of rubbish that they are. The twist at the end of the first film was ridiculous! And whilst I (like I imagine everyone on this site) have no problem with gore, the opening scene of Saw IV is so gratuitous it takes the piss!
They also feature way too many flashy edits and pans. And while I don't buy into this hyperbolic "torture porn" outrage bullshit I do wonder if the writers actually agree with Jigsaw's rationale at times. A bit.
Still, these films can be kind of a kick if you're in the right mood and there's certainly a level of inventiveness to them. Plus, someone fainted when I went to see the third one. That was neat.
No way have these films had the kind of impact the NOESs had, nor the FT13ths for that matter. But Jigsaw is the closest there is to a modern Freddy/Jason/Myers and it's nice to at least have something.

I'll give Jigsaw credit for being a horror icon from this decade but he's no Freddy/Jason/Michael Myers/Leatherface/Pinhead. Not even close.
The gore & effects are pretty good since I think they use practical effects most of the time instead of CGI.
You saw someone faint at Saw III? Haha. Was it during the brain surgery scene?

All the graphic gore in the Saw series can't save them from being total pieces of shit. I don't even consider them horror.

Sounds like a category Bennett would get off on.

I liked the first and third SAW films, but the rest can spend the weekend in Bennett's bedroom. I don't understand the great popularity of these torture films--they get R ratings and loads of viewers, yet action films still go pg-13 b/c the studios think that violence won't make much money in theaters. Bull-chit.
I'm also tired of the consistent sequels. They're dragging them out too much. The Friday the 13th series and NoES series dragged-out as well, but they were still good. These are just getting ridiculous.

You saw someone faint at Saw III? Haha. Was it during the brain surgery scene? I think so. To be honest I didn't actually see them faint, I just saw them being carried out There were reports of faintings before I saw the film, and I assumed it was just hype. Maybe it was, but at least one person really did faint. I'm also tired of the consistent sequels. They're dragging them out too much. The Friday the 13th series and NoES series dragged-out as well, but they were still good. These are just getting ridiculous. It is possibly the most ridiculously prolonged series of all in the sense that [spoilers] the lead character died two films back! [End Spoilers]

I saw the first film...it was fairly entertaining for what it was.
Don't really get what all the fuss is about though. I don't think it takes an awful lot of talent to make these kind of films, bar being able to think up inventive ways to kill in over-the-top ways. I bet we could come up with some Saw-esque killing methods if we felt like it...

The first one was interesting. The rest progressively got worse. I don't plan on seeing SAW V.

I'm seeing TV spots for Saw V so I'm guessing it opens soon. Probably on Friday. All I can say is: PASS.

It is indeed going to open on Friday. My guess is it was penciled in for the 31st, then they saw the new Bond was opening on that day and...

Dogshit.
I saw the first two but gave up after that, the twist`s are beyond idiotic. Just the same thing again and again (but in a bad way)
For some reason I actually own III and IV, they sit on my shelf gathering dust and I doubt that`s going to change anytime soon.
