Walter Hill's forgotten violent work of art. Nick Nolte stars as Jack Benteen in Walter Hill's 1987 modern western/gore-fest about a group of former MIA's, led by Maj. Paul Hackett (Michael Ironside) out to rob a bank in Texas being tracked by a rough-edged Texas Ranger, who is meanwhile keeping his eye on former long-time friend-turned-Mexico drug kingpin Cash Bailey (played by Powers Boothe). The action in this movie is more violent than anything Walter Hill has done--maybe more violent than Last Man Standing. The ending is this ridiculous shootout in Mexico between Cash Bailey's private army, Hackett's troops, and Ranger Benteen. Gore ensues by the bucket-ful. Simply put: the greatest movie you have never seen. It also features a magnificent score by Jerry Goldsmith and Maria Conchita Alonzo plays Benteen's girlfriend--and steps out of the shower fully nude in one scene. Oh yeah. When ITV first showed this action classic in '91, they cut it to shreds, even though it was on after 10.30pm! I got the Region 2 DVD two years ago and it seemed uncut to me. One of my favourite bits is when Ironside and Brown kill off those two bandits in the most macho fashion. A great '80s Walter Hill number with a mega-high body count towards the end.

As hard as I've tried, it is virtually impossible to locate the dvd of this little-known goldmine. No video store has it, not even some online ones like very-low-price secondspin.com. My best advice to you guys is go Amazon or Ebay. I have to do it myself to at least get it on Fullscreen dvd.
One of my favorite parts i just remembered is when William Forsythe and his co-soldier are driving at high speeds to reach their bank robbery and things are going haywire between them. Forsythe keeps shouting like a child "SHUT UP, FAGGOT!" at least 4 times. Hilarious.
