Sentenced to 28 years in prison for a crime he never committed. Only two things can get him out - A lot of money and Charles Bronson!Basically the story is that Robert Duvall is sent to a Mexican prison for a crime he didn't commit. His wife, played by Jill Ireland, hires Bronson and his crew to get him out. This film is more light adventure than serious Bronson ass kicking. While this does give us a chance to see Bronson playing a good humored con man, it also comes off like an episode of MacGuyver or the A-Team. Don't get me wrong, I love the A-Team but in this case it doesn't make for a great movie. This is one of two Bronson movies made in 1975 and directed by Tom Gries. The other was Breakheart Pass. I watched that one last night and Breakout can't compare. There are some good stunts near the end and if you want to see how the bad guy gets it, check out this clip: www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2ZAbr7EAXgnot a bad effect. i have this on dvd. its ok, but is played too much for comedy, bronson neglects his usual 'cold quiet machine' persona. he does look pretty cool though. even in his mid 50's his arms are the size of tree trunks.

I bought this movie a few days ago, haven't really got to watching it. Probably will be all out fun.

This is noteworthy solely for its offbeat cast and Bronson's performance. He basically plays the kind of lovable scumbag that Kurt Russell would later perfect in the 80's. As a result, he gets a lot more dialogue than usual.
The film takes forever to set up its simple premise: Robert Duvall is wrongfully jailed; Jill Ireland hires Bronson to break him out. It then becomes a series of failed rescue attempts. There's a lot of good character moments with Bronson planning the various escapes, but otherwise, it never really gels.
