Found the deluxe version at Target for $5 it has the original dubbed which I prefer and the original original Australian voices.
Anyone else a fan of the work of Hugh Keyes Byrne here and the kid that re-appears against Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon as a suicide jumper.

This movie sure takes me back. When I was a wee little child in the 90s, my dad rented this on VHS and watched it while my brother was asleep on the couch. I loved the outlandish feel to it, as well as the strange characters and incredible car chases. Definitely one of my favorite post-apocalyptic films ever. Spectacular climax and an ending that just RULES. I'm also a huge fan of Jim Goose. Awesome co-officer that I'd like to patrol the outback with.

First saw Mad Max as a 12 year old on BBC2 during the New Year holidays of '92. My tape was a bit fucked up, but I could still make out what was going on and I was absolutely blown away by the car chases and revenge killings, although at the time, I expected it to have more action, as I thought Max's family were killed earlier on in the film. IMDB says that MM was filmed between November and December 1977 which meant that Gibbo was only 21 when he played Max . He sure doesn't look it. It wasn't until a coupla months later in '92 when Mad Max 2 got its network premiere and what a carnage-strewn classic THAT was, folks!

I'm actually one of the few people who prefers Mad Max to the sequel The Road Warrior. I don't know what it is about The Road Warrior. I love the set up at the beginning with the recap of the first movie and I absolutely love the look of the film. The costumes and sets are all great, but there is just something about the film that just is lacking to me. I just don't find the movie all that exciting or cool beyond its look. The guy flying around in the helicopter is too goofy for me and the chase at the end bored me more than it made my adrenaline rush. I just found the action in the original much more exciting and although it doesn't have as high budget a look to it it just feels so much cooler to me for some reason. Thunderdome on the other hand I shut off part way through and never looked back.

Thunderdome was good up to the part when the kids were brought into it. Then all of the momentum that the film had been building came crashing to a halt. For me The Road Warrior will always be the best because of the action and stuntwork. I can't compare the original to the sequels though because the tone was completely different.
"Night Rider! Remember his name when you look up at the night sky!"

I also prefer the first film to The Road Warrior, though I did enjoy The Road Warrior much more when I watched it a second time.
