One I've not seen in ages but thankfully I do own it.
Isn't Joe Spinell in this as well? I could IMDb it but I'm too lazy.

I began watching this on cable a couple years ago with uncertain feelings about Stallone dressed like an old lady to catch robbers, but after reading a bit on this board and IMDb, I might have to pick this up on dvd soon.

The above statement will change.

This was Joe's 4th film with Sly before they allegedly fell out. During filming of Nighthawks, there was intense rivalry between Sly and Hauer, mainly because the Dutchman had beaten him in a foot race. I could feel the boxing gloves comin' on.

Out of curiosity, how good is the action in this movie? Anything like The Getaway or The French Connection in terms of pace and violence?

A guy I know is a massive fan of this movie and he has even made a few videos devoted to it. It's his favourite Stallone flick and he also owns two versions of it - the region 1 and region 2 editions as well as a copy that he downloaded. He first saw it on ITV4. If you want to check out his videos on youtube, his channel is called SweepsProductions.

Music by Brad Fiedel and Jerry Goldsmith gives this a more fast action feel.

I really enjoyed this one. I don't think it often gets the credit it deserves. Not the best Stallone flick around, but deserves better than to be forgotten.

Stallone himself said this was a much better movie than it was when released theatrically. I think it was over two hours long and characters like DaSilva, Irene and Wulfgar were given more of a chance to develop. I have seen some pics of deleted scenes involving DaSilva, Irene, Wulfgar and Shakka that never made it into the final cut. Also, in the original longer version, Wulfgar was shot six times and it was captured in slow-motion. Stallone said it was like the climactic shootout in Taxi Driver, a "bloodbath with a purpose."

Nighthawks had a great cast and soundtrack, but the DVD version I have I think missing 1-2 songs, or maybe they were just thrown into the trailer?
Joe Spinell was a great actor and beside Maniac and the role as the sleazy lawyer in Vigilante, this is might be one of his best roles.

The tracks you are talking about are Brown Sugar by The Rolling Stones and I'm A Man by Keith Emerson which were played in the disco when Stallone and Williams were about to corner Hauer. The Region 2 DVD features the alternate tracks, but the Goodtimes DVD version from the US had the original songs.
Here is a re-edit that someone did last year.
Another re-edit featuring two big hit singles.
Joe Spinell was great in Nighthawks. He really showed up Stallone in that scene and I like another scene where he tells off DaSilva and Fox for larking about during a lecture.

Tall Cool One by Robert Plant goes pretty well in this clip, even though it was recorded 8 years after Nighthawks was made.

Here is the original disco scene from the movie which should have been on the R2 DVD.
