Startlingly, not only did Doc Savage predate Indiana Jones in print by decades, he even predates Indiana Jones in film by seven years.
Except for Hammer's late 1960's film The Devil Rides Out (which took place in the 1930's), and 1975's Farewell My Lovely (which took place in the 1930's as well), this Doc Savage films stands as a period piece set in the 1930's that preceded the Indiana Jones franchise.
Many people point out that, while the success of the Indiana Jones films seem to point to more films coming out set in the 1930's and 1940's, later films that did take place in those decades (Dick Tracy, The Shadow, The Rocketeer, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow) did not produce sequels. (However, the Mummy films with Rick O'Connell reached part three, and they did take place in that approximate time period, and three Tarzan films have appeared since 1980.) However, as noted, the Doc Savage film preceded Indiana Jones by ten years, and it took place in the 1930's. It did not produce a sequel.

I remember watching this a few times on UK TV. I will always remember Ron Ely as Tarzan which I watched every morning during the school holidays when I was a kid.
