Roy Munson (Woody Harrelson) once was an upcoming bowling talent who unfortunately got involved with the bowling master himself Ernie McCracken (Bill Murray).
When they try to rip-off some local bowlers to make some easy money things go real bad. Ernie leaves Munson to the wolf pack and Roy ends up paying for it. His bowling career is now destroyed along with his hand.
17 years later Roy Munson is now a cheap loser who finds hope again when a local bowler named Ishmael (Randy Quaid) catches his eye or ears.
Together they plan to travel to Reno and compete with the best bowlers in the country and go for the big price.
But what happens with the team spirit when a beautiful and smart woman comes between the two of them? I have never understood why Kingpin was not a big success. This is one of the best buddy comedies from the 90's. Its filled with laughs and craziness all over the place.
Bill Murray is perfect as the sleazy Big Ern and Vanessa Angel is a fox.
In my eyes this is the Farrelly brothers finest hour."We don't have cow. We have a bull."

Easily one of my favorite comedies from the 1990s...and well of all-time. Love this movie.
I love the part where Randy Quaid is crapping in the urinal. And Roy's landlady, played by Lin Shaye. Haha.

Great to see that I'm not the only one appreciating this classic. Just gave it another go, but this time I watched the unrated version or r-rated version. Its about 8-10 minutes longer than the theatrical version, and I really liked the "new" scenes, it made the movie even better. Kingpin is a 9 out of 10 in my book. Never a boring moment and it have that great feel good atmosphere with excellent use of music. Daniel Greene who played Roy Munson's father had some pretty good roles in 80's action and horror movies, which included a leading role in the fun Italian post-apocalyptic flick Hands Of Steel (1986) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vendetta_dal_futuro and the role of Elvira's love interest in Elvira: Mistress Of The Dark. He has also been in a couple of other Farrelly films. Almost forgot about Richard Tyson who plays the strip club manager and his role is a bit longer in the unrated version. Big Ern McCracken has to be one of Bill Murray's best roles in the 90's. Find the meat!
