When a group of researchers and an American photograph stumble upon unknown territory in Venezuela, they take tests of dead animals and insects to study and bring with them home. Unfortunately they also got a blind passenger with them, who is about to become a big pain in the ass for a small town in America.
Dr. Ross Jennings (Jeff Daniels) and his family has just moved away from the big city to try live in a bit more relaxing environment in Canaima. But things is about to become all but quiet as the inhabitants in Canaima starts to die in mysterious ways.
Even though he is not believed at first, Ross has a feeling that the killings might not just be coincidental but in fact done by an eight legged killer.
Together with the local bug exterminator (John Goodman) and spider expert Dr. James Atherton (Julian Sands), all Ross now has to do is to overcome his fear of spiders if the gang wants to have any chance against an small army of killers.Arachnophobia is fun horror-comedy with a pretty good cast. The special effects holds up well I think, and if you are a bit scared of spiders then it should work even better as a horror film. John Goodman is hilarious as the comedic character but I always felt Julian Sands should have gotten more screen time. The soundtrack ain't that bad either.
