This is the big-budget action film which began the trend for hi-tech vehicles in the '80s. Blue Thunder was actually filmed in early 1982 and after that, we had a talking sportscar (Knight Rider), another supercopter that had more weaponry (Airwolf), an armed bike (Street Hawk) and there was even a short-lived Blue Thunder TV series. The late Roy Scheider was terrific as LAPD chopper pilot Frank Murphy, a Vietnam vet who is asked to test out Blue Thunder, an armed craft equipped with state of the art surveillance, turbo boost, videos and most of all the Vulcan electric cannon which can fire 6000 rounds a minute. But when he finds out that an old enemy from 'nam (Malcolm McDowell) intends to use Blue Thunder for sinister purposes, Murphy steals it and becomes a target for the police, the air force and some corrupt spooks. Great aerial action set-pieces in this.

Add this one to the "own but haven't watched yet" list. Might have to check it out soon.

Check it out. The best sequence from it is when they demonstrate Blue Thunder's armed capabilities for the first time.

Some great action and flying in these clips, despite the poor quality.

Again, poor quality, but this features one of the greatest aerial battles ever committed to film.
