The Terminator, in a lot of ways, is like Arnie's First Blood. It was one of his early starring efforts away from an established character (Conan) and to the majority of people it has been eclipsed by the sequel. It may be on a smaller scale than part 2 but there's a great deal of atmosphere in this film that gets lost later in the series.
Like First Blood, many people who have seen the sequels have never taken the time to see where it all began and they're missing out.

I don't think the first film was (totally) eclipsed by the sequels, if anything they helped it's legacy endure longer. I know when I was growing up T1 was one of those films you had to have seen to be cool (although T2 topped it for that at the time of course).

I fucking love this movie! Arnie gives one of his most memorable performances as the unstopapple killing machine. Biehn is great as usual and Hamilton plays her role fantastic.Plus she looks more like woman in this than in the sequel. Put in some great action, music and memorable characters and shit hot soundtrack, then you have an timeless classic.
This movie never gets old

This movie never gets old I agree, Terminator was definitely Arnold's claim to fame that jettisoned his career forward from simply B movies. James Cameron chose a perfect cast and wrote a glorious screenplay. Hands down an unequivocal classic! The second one was fantastic as well, however the third was a total travesty.

The Nightclub shootout is great too. From pulling out the long slide hardballer all cold blooded looking and reese is shoving bartenders out of the way for his Remington 870 then Terminator comes back with an Uzi and goes postal on the night club then hes walking in front of the tech noir sign reloading the sign looks like "Terminator" sweet movie making. The punch through the windshield puts in a reminder that this IS a machine that never stops. Terminator one makes you really fear Terminators and hate Skynet. The atmosphere is lost after this movie and now you can stop Terminators with Ar-15s and stuff . They used to be unbeatable without a crushing machine or advanced plasma weapons.

Yeah, I never understood why they chose the AMT Hardballer. That gun is notoriously shitty. I mean, it looks awesome, but the damn thing can't go a whole magazine without stovepiping.

I'm sure they chose it because it's big and looks positively awesome. It makes a nice touch to the movie poster, which I also have in my bedroom.

The AMT long slide Hardballer worked with certain grease in it Moly grease iirc anyway they chose it because it looks terminator
I never understood why he drops it in the night club he already had 2 Sarah Connors plus a ginger so he was having great luck with it.

I wish Arnold had held onto the Uzi longer. I suppose it is a classically overrated gun, but it's practically a rule of thumb to have at least one Uzi in an 80's action film.

I'm not too impressed with how this looks on Blu-ray but I will say it is an improvement over the DVD for sure.
