Nickelback. The absolute empitome of all things evil in the world today. According to imdb, Chad "douchebag" Kroeger is considered the "Kurt Cobain of the 21st Century." Hope that means his band will end just as quick as Nirvana. Keyword is HOPE.

I have a particular burning hatred for John Mayer/Jack Johnson/any other music of a similar ilk. Husky, whispery, annoying voices and an acoustic guitar does not a great musician make. Same goes for females that can play guitar like Katy Tunstall, Amy McDonald, Sandy Thom etc. Pish.

Every band releasing a debut post c.1999.
In my view no decent bands have emerged this decade. All totally derivative. Music has disappeared up it's own rectum and doesn't think it's shit stinks. How many non-descript guitar bands harking back to the 80s? How many plodding, pedestrian rappers covered in clown clothes? How many neutered Jackson Brownes?
It is a sad state of affairs!

Every band releasing a debut post c.1999. I'd agree with that statement wholeheartedly if I didn't love 3 Inches of Blood

Thats because youre not really into metal. The most interesting, different bands have released their debuts in the last 10 years. It may not be accessable, but its damn origional, especially UK bands, such as Ted Maul (we love them for their music and that they are Brass Eye fans). Dig a little deeper past all the main stream indie shit and find little gems poking through. It can be done. The aforementioned 3IOB are a good example of quite brutal music done with almost comedic vocals.

Music has been quite shit the last 10 years though... 3iob are good but they're an old-school metal tribute act.
Sadly most metal bands coming out of the last 10 years has been Rap Metal, Emo, Metal Core and now this shit Death Core faggotry.
I can't really think of more than a handful of post 2000 bands that are much use to anyone.

True, I know nothing about metal, but metal has been around for decades. Have there really been many significant developments in the last 8? I imagine, like most genres, it has introspected and borrowed from predecessors.
Nothing against modern musicians - it is just modernity and ironism generally. People are informed by something so accessible and pervasive, so ingrained that it is very hard to do something new. Look at film, painting and fashion - it suffers just as badly. Genres replicate.

Ted Maul for one. Malefice are cool too, Chimaira, Zyklon at the extreme end of the market. Sonic Syndicate are very cool too. Theres other good bands that are out but not particually origional, origionality long since died, but there ARE good bands out there.

I like Chimaira but they're totally one-dimensional. Ted Maul aren't particularly good. Sonic Syndicate are mince. Zyklon are really overrated...
There is originality to be found, it's just that too many people are too quick to resort to bunging in singing choruses or pig vocals and shit breakdowns to actually persevere and create something new. Most of the innovation is coming from the more established bands now. and Arsis.
